I need help with my new Notebook and network

Hi, i just got my notebook and i got a wireless router. I was able to set up a wireless internet connection but the internet goes out on both if i shut my PC down and i have to start everything up again in a specific order. also, i can't figure out how to set up a wireless network so i can use my PC's printer from my notebook wirelessly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying that if you turn off you computer, you can't access the internet? Just want to clarify.

About the printer, I'm also having problem with that. Anyone could help us?
 
I think for printer you just have to go to the computer where you set up the printer, click "sharing" , and go to the sharing tab and configure those few options.

Then start to "install a new printer" on your laptop, but choosing a network printer and put in your printer address from there.

Thats from what I remember but sorry if I'm wrong.
 
Okay just a few questions before we really dig into this please.
1) What's you're operating system on the notebook and the system that has the printer attached to it?

2) Are you using a wireless router that is also a network hub for wired computers?

3) When you say shutdown do you mean flipping the switch on a surge protector as well?


These should help things out just a bit.
 
1. I have windows xp on both

2. yes wireless router w/ hub

3. no, shutting my desktop down makes the internet go down so then i have to restart it in the following order: modem,router,computer.

Also, they are hooked up on the network right and i have the printer sharing
