I never expected this - my Mom bought a Wii

CAGiversary!
I stayed the night at my Mom's house last Saturday so that I could wake up and go to Target and get a Wii for the Sunday ad. They live less than a mile away from it, and I live 35 miles away from it, so it made sense. So we all played it there at her house and I think she got.... addicted. I didnt know it, but she was on the hunt to get one for herself and finally got one today.

This coming from my Mom who has never made an intiative to really play games... even though she bought a used Super NES and Playstation at garbage sales... that was years ago and she never played them. Right now though, she's playing away, knocking down pins in bowling, I'm sure.

Very cool Zatos! Nintendo really knows what they are doing. I took my Wii to my parents house last week and my dad really liked Wii Sports. He told guys at work about it, and they had played it too. I doubt he'd get one, but he at least feels comfortable about playing games if his co-workers like it to.

Now go play some coop tennis with your mom!!!!!!!!!

BEAT YOUR MOTHER IN BOXING ZATOS!

I got mine at Toys 'R Us last weekend. I was in line next to a 70 year old man buying one for himself. He said his grandson got one and really enjoyed it. The coolest part was the fact that the guy also bought Zelda for himself!

I always call them 'garbage' sales... ;)

Haha, oh yeah, last night my mom stayed up til 1 am because she was playing... I was shocked, she always goes to bed by 10pm!

That's pretty cool, Zatos. I was talking with my mom the other day and out of the blue she started asking me about the DS and the Wii. She was thinking about getting one for my dad to help keep his mind active (starting to slip in his late 60s).

This floored me. Over the years I've talked about games I've been playing, but they were never all that interested. I can guarantee my folks are bigger techno-phobes than just about any of your folks, so the idea of them playing the DS or the Wii is incredibly bizarre.

I hyped the system a lot when I got mine, and I think my dad really enjoyed it (he would sneak on and play Red Steel or Bowling), but I don't think he would buy one for himself. He just doesn't have the time to get his money's worth.

There's a lot of this going on. My parents and my Aunt and Uncle bought Wiis after they played at my house. Neither of them have bought a game console since Colecovision in 1982, when there were kids in the house.

Incredibly, going after non-gamers appears to be working at least to some extent.
