About a month ago, our launch Wii stopped reading any and all discs. Luckily it was still under warranty (only because I registered it online and was given an additional 90 days...phew). So Nintendo emailed a prepaid Fed Ex label and we sent our Wii out for repair. They told me to expect it back in 10 days at the most. 10 days come and go, still no Wii. Go to the website and Nintendo said they never received it. Fed Ex tracking showed it making it to Syracuse, NY but sitting there for 8 days. After another week of phone tag with Fed Ex and they finally decide it has been lost. Another couple of days pass and Nintendo finally decides to call it lost also. So they send us another Wii, but not a NEW Wii, a refurbished one with a new one year warranty. I asked the Nintendo rep about all the game saves and such on the old Wii and she told me "The virtual games will be transferred to the "new" Wii, but everything else is lost." She also told me that I should have been told to back up everything on an SD card before I shipped the Wii, as repaired Wii's are rarely given back to their original owners. There is a collection of repaired Wii's that are used to replace ones being repaired to help shorten turn around on repair orders. None of this was mentioned in any previous phone calls or emails, so I asked if they could in any way reimburse us for the loss. She said, "No, but now that you have played all those games, you are much more experienced and wiser and should be able to get back to where you were in no time." I also asked that if our old Wii was ever found would they switch us back and she said no. In other words, she told me to
off. So after almost 4 weeks of BS, we have a "new" Wii with a new one year warranty and everything is back to normal with the exception of our lost game saves and Mii's.
Now here's the good part. Yesterday I get an email from Nintendo saying that our Wii (the serial number matches our original) has been repaired and that they are sending it back overnight delivery. This morning Fed Ex delivered our original Wii and all the old stuff is still in the memory. So now we have two Wii's thanks to the fact that Nintendo's subcontractor doesn't know that Nintendo already replaced our Wii. THANK YOU NINTENDO AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!
My wife asked if I was going to return it (ha ha), and I said "No, but maybe now Nintendo will be 'much more experienced and wiser' and not make this mistake again".
