About a month ago, our launch Wii stopped reading any and all discs. Luckily it was still under warranty (only because I registered it online and was given an additional 90 days...phew). So Nintendo emailed a prepaid Fed Ex label and we sent our Wii out for repair. They told me to expect it back in 10 days at the most. 10 days come and go, still no Wii. Go to the website and Nintendo said they never received it. Fed Ex tracking showed it making it to Syracuse, NY but sitting there for 8 days. After another week of phone tag with Fed Ex and they finally decide it has been lost. Another couple of days pass and Nintendo finally decides to call it lost also. So they send us another Wii, but not a NEW Wii, a refurbished one with a new one year warranty. I asked the Nintendo rep about all the game saves and such on the old Wii and she told me "The virtual games will be transferred to the "new" Wii, but everything else is lost." She also told me that I should have been told to back up everything on an SD card before I shipped the Wii, as repaired Wii's are rarely given back to their original owners. There is a collection of repaired Wii's that are used to replace ones being repaired to help shorten turn around on repair orders. None of this was mentioned in any previous phone calls or emails, so I asked if they could in any way reimburse us for the loss. She said, "No, but now that you have played all those games, you are much more experienced and wiser and should be able to get back to where you were in no time." I also asked that if our old Wii was ever found would they switch us back and she said no. In other words, she told me to fuck off. So after almost 4 weeks of BS, we have a "new" Wii with a new one year warranty and everything is back to normal with the exception of our lost game saves and Mii's.

Now here's the good part. Yesterday I get an email from Nintendo saying that our Wii (the serial number matches our original) has been repaired and that they are sending it back overnight delivery. This morning Fed Ex delivered our original Wii and all the old stuff is still in the memory. So now we have two Wii's thanks to the fact that Nintendo's subcontractor doesn't know that Nintendo already replaced our Wii. THANK YOU NINTENDO AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

My wife asked if I was going to return it (ha ha), and I said "No, but maybe now Nintendo will be 'much more experienced and wiser' and not make this mistake again".

Wow... that lady sounds like a bitch. Usually Nintendo reps are fucking awesome (within reason of course).

Congrats on the free Wii.:)

*whats for someone to call the OP immoral and a thief for keeping the second one*

Good work though OP. I wish I could get two Wii's like that. Mine stopped reading disks for awhile and I got all ready to send it back and then all of a sudden it magically started working again. Go figure.

The OP is immoral and a thief for keeping the second one.

Just kidding/jealous. Kidding/jealousy aside, please put some serious thought into donating your extra Wii to a charity or an orphanage. Especially considering what time of year it is.

Either that, or sell it to some desperate parents trying to make up for failing their children that hate them.

Speaking of free Wii's, I went to my company xmas party. At the last minute, they decided to give door prizes in a raffle. So I go for the hell of it and got a ticket. Come time to chose tickets, they mention its a Wii bundle! They call out 3 numbers and I thought it was over. The keep reading numbers and I'm chosen. I found out that they were giving out 27 Wii bundles.

Its just the console, extra set of controller and Legend of Zelda!

So that's who ended up with MY WII. Thief!!!

LMFAO J/K OP, hope the free Wii works better than the one you sent in for repairs. And, don't forget to register the free one for the warranty. LMAO

Yeah, we kept ours vertical when it stopped reading...when I put it horizontal, it started making this loud grinding noise. I thought it was eating my new Mario Galaxy!

I plan on holding onto it for a while and make sure that the Nintendo Stormtroopers don't come looking for the extra. I don't want to give it to my nephews and nieces and then have to take it back because Nintendo found out about their snafu. Now I have to go spend $$$.$$ for cables, a sensor bar, power cord, wiimote, nunchuk...wait, maybe Nintendo knew what they were doing after all.

the first Wii I got started having disc rear errors the VERY first day. I had it on its side in the stand, I then moved it vertically and it stopped, then a week later the same problem.. so I sent it back and got a new one in a week or so. Haven't had 1 single problem since. hopefully it won't have any problems

the "free" one came from nintendo under records, if they dug hard enough they'd find it, that's not to say he couldn't hold off on registering it (then if it broke register it, wait a few days then call them up lol), but it's likely if it broke and he tried to have it repaired, someone would run into the backlog and notice that he was sent out a wii at "this date" and they'd know if it fell under warranty or not

and that'd easily apply to his original which he did end up getting back, there'd be records of that, that are able to be found immediately so they'd know exactly the warranty period on that console

I have extra AV cable and stand. I had extra sensor bar and power cord as well but I sold all that stuff on eBay.

My system got stolen so I was left with accessories and had to buy new Wii.
