I want to start camping for PS4

I'm almost not kidding when I say some fucker somewhere in the U.S. is going to get the 'cute' idea to start a 'line' for the PS4 within the next year. It'll probably be outside a used game 'n' CD store where he knows the manager and they'll put up a 'cutesy' little sign and he'll stop by every day for at least an hour for show, until the one-month mark, that is, when he'll literally live in a tent from there on in.

If Sony really gets the PS4 out in Fall of 2010, I think that'll be a sign of how desperate they are to not get blown out of the water by the next Xbox beating them by potentially two (or more!) years. It could also be a sign of how eager they are to get into the strictly digital distribution era, bailing on Blu-Ray. It was five years between the PS1 and PS2, and now six years between the PS2 and PS3. To cut down the turnaround time to four years would be kind of stupid. The PS3 will never have the same--insert Butthead snickering here--penetration rate as the previous two consoles under those conditions.

That's true, but if Microsoft sticks to a four-year cycle for its consoles, then they'd kind of force Sony's hand, dontcha think? I'm not saying we'll see the Nextbox in 2009, but Sony's got to be already preparing for that very real possibility, no? They can't afford to lag behind anymore than one holiday season.

Microsoft only had a four year console cycle to beat Sony to market. My guess is the 720 hits in 1010ish. Anywho..... "let's start camping" jokes were funny half a decade ago.

I never liked Microsoft releasing the 360 after the original Xbox only being on the market for four short years. I know they did that for the 1 year jump on the PS3, but it just felt rushed, which it was. We'll see if it works out for them. If Sony beat Microsoft again this generation, they shouldn't worry about rushing the PS4 for 2010. And if Microsoft does loses, they should take an extra year at the end of the 360's lifespan. I say, Nextbox/720 in 2010, and PS4 in 2011, at the earliest for both.
Four years is too soon. It should be at least 2011, ideally 2012 until we get the PS4.
Yeah babby, you got it right on the money.

Makes you wonder how long Wii will last... I'm wondering if Nintendo will release Wii 2 before the competition.

I'm pretty sure they will. The last-gen graphics are not going to age well*, especially once most gaming households go 'HD', I don't care what the 'loyalists' say. I'm thinking Wii II in 2009? Totally backwards-compatible, of course. That way, in the feeble, enslaved minds of the Fanfuck Collective, when we even start to complain about why they weren't 'next-gen' to begin with, we'll still be able to enjoy our original Wii games, we won't have a leg to stand on, and our ungrateful asses should--how you say?--"STFU".

I think the real Wii console is still going to cost us $500+ dollars, it'll have just been broken into 'two easy installments', paid out over three years.

*--It's easy to deny this now, but once Time takes its toll and more games than not are up to (at least) Gears of War/Unreal Engine 3 standards, squawking the tired "Gameplay over graphics! RAAWWWK!! Gameplay over graphics!! Pollygon the Parrot takes that anyday!! SQUAAAWK!!" won't sound so convincing...even to the squawker.
