icy cold facts on xbox live

from the July issue 2004 I was reading and came upon this story

So some people got together and played Crimson Skies on Xbox Live. One of the players mentioned he was going to step outside for a smoke while the others waited on a couple more to join in. He was attempting to play through the window but realized he had left his lighter inside on the coffee table.

So the guy stuck out says, "Guys, I'm locked out of my house." It was getting late, and his wife was the only one with another key but she was out. Also, the guy lives in Chicago and was wearing socks on a patio surrounded by snow. So the only connection he had for help was through Xbox live.

You left out the part of the story where he got the guys on live to call his wife and let her know he was locked out.. that's the part that makes the story.

Makes sense to me in a weird way actually... but if he was playing through the window why couldnt he just climb back in? or was he using a wireless controller of some sort?

Even if it was wireless I think you need to connect the headset to the console.

This was suppossed to illustrate how XBL how save your life in a pinch but it turned out just funny as shit. Could you imagine being the guy to call his wife?.....

I know for normal controllers, however I read that some (if not all) wireless controllers require you to hook the mic up to your console...therefore eliminating the purpose of wireless :p

Weird, where would one plug the headset into the system? Don't believe there are any ports for it, nor would the cord reach unless you sat 2 ft away from the xbox.

I think it is fake. There are just so many holes in it. He is playing outside but he can't get inside? And as of right now there are no real wireless controllers that you can plug a headset into. You can plut it I believe into the reciever so you are still "wired". It is the one thing I wish Microsoft would invest in to. A good wireless controller that supports XBL headset. Or possibly a Wireless Controller/Headset combo. So both are wireless.

It had an illustration beside the letter, and it showed it like the window was closed and the wire was being smashed under the window.

why didn't he just break the window? glass for a window about 5 square feet costs about 10 bucks and you can put it in yourself.

Total BS story.

Lame ass fanboys, are always talking up this crap.

How far does one have to reach, to get a letter posted in a magazine?? How sad.

.............

Take what OXM says with a grain of salt.. they like to make jokes.. a LOT. The only story I've heard is about the XBox being bulletproof.. and that news article was over at Gamespot.

This story does have quite a few holes in it. I really doubt its true.

Unless the guy stepped out for a "smoke" of something other than tobacco. In which case one of two things could have happened:
1. He was too stoned to remember to take his keys or how to climb through a window.
2. He was so stoned that he imagined the whole incident and just had to share it with everyone, so he wrote a letter to OXM.

There is a wireless controller (it's mentioned in the IGN review of the new Logitech headset, which requires you to plug the headset into a base station thus defeating wireless) that uses bluetooth to connect the headset. Theoretically, he could have been using that controller and be talking on Live from outside.
