If We Told You, You Might Sue

Yeah I read that shit yesterday, fucking absurd. Nice post.

I'm sure most of us can probably guess which telecom companies worked/are working with the government to provide user information.

Thank you President Obama for undoing the Patriot Act as you pledged to do in your campaign. Your leadership and respect of civil rights continues to be a shining beacon of hope in the world left dark with fear since 2000!

Both of them? :D

Seriously, though - let's say T-Mobile or Alltel is holding out on the Fed... I wonder if that would get them to push through the approval for the merging process with AT&T/Verizon... Just mindless speculation though. I'm sure both company were fairly compliant when asked anyway...

From my perspective, each and every president attempts to expand the power of his office. It's the one consistent characteristic I've noticed.

Totally. Still not happy about it.

The government went after the CEO of Qwest, who just happened to be the only baby Bell to tell the government no. Then again, the CEO was so utterly guilty of fraud that it was hard not to go after him. Then again, how many aren't guilty of fraud at this point?

Perhaps it's just my unhealthy distrust of the Federal Government speaking, but I'm guessing if they really want to accuse you of a crime, they'll be able to prove you've done it, regardless if you've done it or not.

I don't know about that. They've had to release a bunch of Gitmo detainees who were accused of being terrorists, when they really weren't.

Release them after how long? With no reparations and without admitting that they were wrong?

I can spin this.

"ACLU in a tiff because the FBI doesn't want you to sue telecoms for following the law."

There, how's that?
