If you could only have two DS games, what would they be?

I'm gonna order a DS Lite tonight. I picked up PPL as an Amazon DotD a few days ago, but I'm trying to decide on what other game (or two) to order along with it. I want something unique to the system. Looking at New Super Mario Bros. right now (since I could use a good 2D platformer) so your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

BTW, which color hides scratches, fingerprints, etc. better. The Onyx (black) or Polar (white).

I can't help you on what model of the DS Lite to get -- I still have the DS "Phat".

Anyway, games I'd pick...in order(in case you don't like some games I listed & their genres).

1.Pokemon Diamond (or Pearl). I'm serious. They are highly accessible RPGs, but also have a surprising amount of depth. They can basically be as deep as you want them to be.
2.New Super Mario Bros. Yep, it's awesome.
3.Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. It's under $20 US now, as long as you can find it. It was the first Castlevania game I've played, and I'm loving every moment of it.
4.Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
5.Elite Beat Agents
6.Mario Kart DS

All of the above are great choices, and you really can't go wrong with any of 'em.

Animal Crossing is infinitly replayable, and also pokemon, it too has basically unlimited play potential.

Puzzle Quest or Meteos (PQ more fun solo, Meteos more fun multi) and Advance Wars get the most use from me. Definitely three of the best games on the system.

PPL is awesome, excellent pick!

I would highly recommend Elite Beat Agents, it is unique to the DS and a lot of fun. I was hesitant at first to get it, afraid it would be lame and kiddie, but it is really enjoyable and quite challenging.

Hotel Dusk is about unique as DS can get with game controls. I can't think of any other unique for DS from my collection because all other game types can be played on other consoles with better or equivalent results. Do you really want to play a fighter on DS when you can play Soul Calibur, DOA, Tekken, Virtua Figther, etc? Same with rhythm games. All DS adds to those type of games are the fact that it's portable.

I'd get a white one, fingermarks show up on it way less than the black one. Finger smudges are a pet peeve of mine on handhelds (I'm looking at you PSP !!)

AS for 2 games I'd go for Puzzle Quest and Mario Kart if I had to limit myself to 2.

New Super Mario Bros and Kirby Canvas Curse would be my top two picks.

KCC would fit the 'unique to DS' category IMO.

Usually anything black shows fingerprints, dirt, etc way more than white. At least it works that way with cars.

Impossible. Too many good games.

But if you want a 2D platformer go for NSMB, it's great. If you're a Sonic fan Sonic Rush is awesome as well. Almost forgot about Kirby Squeak Squad. It's short, but great for a Kirby fan.

For weird random shit put to a musical rhythm get Elite Beat Agents. And Kirby Canvas Curse is excellent for a DS-inspired platformer-ish thing.

For heavy on the text point-and-click kind of games go for the Ace Attorney series and Hotel Dusk, both are excellent.

For puzzle games there's Meteos, Tetris DS, Planet Puzzle League, Picross DS, and Puzzle Quest. Picross, PPL, and Tetris are WiFi. Those are all great and Picross is only $20 MSRP.

For racing, obviously, there's Mario Kart DS. Diddy Kong Racing DS isn't that bad either, but Mario Kart is definitely the king. Both are WiFi multiplayer.

If you want a nice WiFi card/board game game definitely pick up Clubhouse Games. It's great online even though CAG seems to be off-and-on with the getting together to play. :p

So those are a few of my recommendations, as far as the color goes, white is definitely better at hiding fingerprints, but scratches I think black might be better at hiding since it's dark (unless the plastic underneath is white, I dunno, I've never scratched it). So it's kind of a toss-up.

Thank you for the suggestions. I certainly don't mind you going over the 2 game-recommendation limit. Right now I've only got Planet Puzzle League and New Super Mario Bros. Loving both. Probably gonna go out and pick up a couple more games this week. Gonna jump on the Pokemon DotD even though I've never played a Pokemon game before.

I want a Nintendogs (quick pick-up and play type) and/or Brain Age/Big Brain (educational type) game, but I can't decide on which.

Thanks again.

If you want a random spattering of great games for the DS, I'd suggest Brain Age and New Super Mario Bros -- gives you a great platformer and a fun game with all manner of replay value that's unlike any other (Big Brain Academy is great, but they're not the same)...

You should at least wait for Brain Age 2.

Sonic Rush and Pokemon Pearl/Diamond.

And since you are looking for a platformer, I really suggest you get Sonic Rush. It's fairly cheap nowadays too.

Advance Wars and Animal Crossing can sap hundreds of hours of your life. Advance Wars is a bitch to find now though.

A puzzle game like Meteos or Puzzle League.

A compilation like Clubhouse Games or Touchmaster

Correct for Animal Crossing but I'll have to disagree for Advance Wars. Unless you love trying to collect everything in the game you won't get hundreds of play time with it. I beat the main campaign just under 16 hours and didin't find the so called hard mode that much harder. Your mileage may vary depending on your proficiency at strategy games but there's no way you'll spend more than 40 hours on this game unless you try to collect all the game items. For some people that's fun, but not for me.

Any Phoenix Wright game would be good, though I'd start with the first one, as the second one wasn't as good(and the third comes out next month). Hotel Dusk is another good one to pick up while it's still somewhat available.

Elite Beat Agents is definitely a must have. And then if you like it you'll be wanting to import Ouendan & Ouendan 2 as well.

For platformers, NSMB & Sonic Rush are both good, as is Kirby Canvas Curse. Both DS Castlevanias are worth picking up as well, and they should both be under $20 by now.

The DS Mario Kart is pretty much the best Mario Kart ever as well, IMO.

I don't know if I could choose only two. I guess it'd have to end up being Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow & Ouendan 2(or EBA if you don't want to import). Still only choosing two misses a lot of great games. For that matter, I own over 40 DS games and I'm still missing good stuff like Puzzle Quest.

I've had a DS Lite since Tuesday and I have so far:

Brain Age (will likely pick up the sequel a few months down the line)
Nintendogs (very charming)
New Super Mario Bros.
Planet Puzzle League

I'm definitely running out to get Mario Kart by the weekend and possibly Animal Crossing with Phoenix Wright. What a great little handheld.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! and Moero Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii! Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! 2, these games have stolen countless hours of my life and soul

I love Hotel Dusk and PW, but no way I'd keep them as my only games. There's no replay value. At least not to me.

I'd say Clubhouse Games and Mario Kart, mostly for their Wifi abilities.

Advance wars DS and Mario Kart

Advance Wars DS is the best game ever made on any handheld or console IMHO. I have sunk more hours into it than any game on any console. There is so much to do and unlock and there is no better balanced game out on the market today.

I'd have to be a nintendo fanboy and say Pokemon Pearl/Diamdon and Mario Kart DS. Bomberman DS is pretty cheap and is also awesome on the battle game. Too many choices but those have a lot of replay value

Two... ugh... list of 10 wouldn't be easy either... err...

Kirby Canvas Curse and Brain Age... phew, that was hard
