Install divx driver into QT MAC or a good DVD to QT converter?

A good friend of mine just bought a macbook and I'm trying to help her get divx encoded .avi's to play and we are clueless on how to go about this. I've googled some stuff and I think I even downloaded a driver, but couldn't figure out how/where to install to. I need help, please.

If there isnt' a good alternative(possiblye a different media player than QT), can anyone recommend good DVD(protected) to quicktime software? Thanks Mac-aware CAGs!

Ya, get the Divx Player for Mac http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/, that should let you watch DIVX movies.

Or, to make it really easy, get Perian. It has virtually every codec you could ever want for Quicktime. A must-have for any Mac user.
