Just tested Quake 3 Arena and Quake 3 Team Arena with one quick bot game on each. Had no problems what so ever and had the latest patch installed with Team Arena. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 for reference.
The only problem I ran in to was installation. The auto-run screen will not run and will popup with an error. Instead you need to manually go into the disc and open up the /Quake 3/ (Q3 Arena Disc) or /Setup/ (Q3 Team Arena Disc) folders and launch the setup.exe from there. Everything else from there on should be normal without any problem.

thanks i originally thought about that and did try it but i guess i didnt go deep enough in the folders....
I know some games from that period weren't real keen on multicore CPUs, although I believe those were mostly Unreal based games. If you get weird crashes try setting processor affinity to just one core.
