Installing RAM -- how difficult?

I did some research last night and found the specific RAM that I need for my computer. I'm currently running at 128MB and will upgrade to 256MB. Hopefully this will help with all the slowdowns and freezes I've been having lately.

I've read some online tutorials on installing RAM and it seems fairly easy. I installed an ethernet card last year and that's the 1st time I'd ever opened the case. Anyone here ever installed RAM and what advice can you give? Thanks.

I ordered online and just got shipping confirmation a few hours ago. It should be here by Monday or Tuesday.

From what I remember it's a (128MB PC100 SDRAM DIMM 168 pin CL2 8ns) module.

Its almost as hard as making toast.

Ram can be VERY sensitive. If you have an area with out carpet, I'd suggest you work on it there. Touch the frame of the machine before you touch the ram or any other component. Don't shuffle around a lot either. Dont wear clothes that make a lot of static. Try to keep your arm touching some part of the frame to minimize the potential for static damage.

In addition, get a grounding wrist strap. It attaches to the metallic portion of your case or any metallic object so you stay grounded and not develop a static charge. They're cheap - around $5 at Radio Shack.

I personally would leave teh PC plugged in (grounded) but off of course, and I mean off by the switch on the back of the power box.

Also not wearing your socks is a good idea.

Truthfully I only did half these things on many installs and have NEVER had a problem. On the other hand I bought a game a few days ago and got the biggest static shock in my life when handing the guy my card. So it can happen, and just because you dont feel it doesnt mean it didnt.

where did you order from?

Most likely someone would have had that ram lying around as its a bit older.

Wow, that was even before I had this computer!
