Intellevision II system doesn't work

A co-worker of mine was lurking around his attic and found an old Intellevision II system. He had all the hook ups and about 10 games. He ended up just giving everything to me. I tried hooking it up but couldn't get it to work. I see a faint/flickering title screen for a second but that's it. I tried all the games but it's the same. Any idea what the problem might be or is the system just junk?

Hard to say - cartridge based consoles usually hold up. Is it the correct power supply? It's easy to find a replacement on eBay relatively cheaply -- you already have the games, so why not?

I haven't looked on eBay myself, but it's my understanding that INTV2 Power Supplies are hard to get because they're irregular...

^ The AC adapter is the original one. It gets power. There's a little red LED light that comes on when powered up. I just can't get a picture.

Like you said I thought it was odd I couldn't get it to work. Never had much problems with cart based systems. I most likely wouldn't play it but I have a soft spot for these old systems. I'd like to salvage it if possible.

Maybe it has something to do with the kind of TV you have or the A/V connection?
Does it connect through an RF unit or whatever?

It's RF. Can you hook up an Intellevision any other way? I only tried it on one TV. Maybe I'll try a different set.

What game are you using? There are a few games (notably the Coleco arcade ports to INTV) that don't work on the INTV--including Mattel's own Math Fun.

^ To name a few, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, Golf, Nova Blast & Diner are the only ones I can remember right now. Plus there were a couple mystery games with no labels.

This is one of the first pieces of electronics I ever took apart and was actually able to fix. I would check where the A/V connection comes into the Intellivision. Take it apart and check the solder points near the of that part.

The problem I had was with the AC adapter, and I had to resolder the connection where the input is. If I remember correctly (I probably don't it, it was over 20 years ago!) there was a metal housing that surrounded that AC connection that had to be pried up in order to look. I doubt the A/V connection has that, but the solder joints may still be weak from being old and physically stressed when something was plugged in.

Oh, the ITV 2... fond memories. Mine is sitting in a box, next to my ITV 1, under my arcade stick... lol. Intellivoice and about 20-odd games.

If I had more time I'd probably invest some manpower in trying to fix it, just for fun. Right now I'm in the process of moving and getting ready for a baby so it's just sitting in my living room getting in my way.

I've been trying to find someone to take it off my hands cause I really don't want to toss it out, but no takers so far. Unfortunately it's not in the best condition and some of those side buttons on the controller seem to be stuck in.

I know you said the title screen shows up, but I gave my Intellivision I a good cleaning when I tried to start it up a couple of years ago. I used a q-tip with a mix of alcohol and water on the cartridge connectors and it worked like a charm.

If nothing else, you can sell Diner for a pretty penny on Ebay, it's one of the rarer more sought after Intellivision games. (not mega bucks, but you can get a good $20-30 for it)
