Interested in Laptop for college

CAGiversary!
Highly interested in a laptop that can multitask and run games at a decent clip in addition to having features such as built in Wi-Fi and support for the video out on the PSP.

Monitor size and weight is a big issue. Obviously, you have to sacrifice portability for more power and performance. I'm thinking 15 inches will be the bare minimum, since I'm using a dastardly small 13 inch screen and it's clearly not getting the job done. I'd probably prefer 17 inches.

I don't know anything about laptops and I know only slightly more about regular PCs. Should I just opt for an apple book and carry that around with me for college?

Budget: $2000

Yeah, I generally reccomend most people to opt for a mac book. I'm not a Mac fan or anything but macbooks are really solid and it's nice to switch it up. If you're gonna get a pc get a windows pc of course (maybe later on down the line) Then you'll have the best of both worlds. :) oh and + console gaming (3 worlds?) The only thing that would be a downside is the price of the macbooks, but don't forget about the student discount, and it should be alright.

Well, he wants to multi-task, so you can forget the Mac.

Try www.ibuypower.com. I just put together a real nice laptop build there on a 17 inch screen, C2D processor and a Raedon 256mb video card for around $1300, which you simply won't be able to beat in that price range. Or course you didn't put a budget, which always makes this tough.

I would suggest checking out ibuypower then. They're usually real good with price. We have a laptop at work that we bought from them years ago, and it still runs as good as the day we bought it.

I was able to put together a 17" laptop with a 1.83 C2D, 1 gig ram, 256 ATI Video card, 100 gig 7200rpm hard drive, and Vista Home Premium for just over $1300. Play around with it as you've got room with your budget. You should be able to put together a real killer laptop. Any further questions, just ask.

I've used ibuypower in the past with my last studio. Of the 14 towers we bought, 3 of them had some critical failures. They do offer some great prices, but their customer service wasn't great (wasn't terrible, just not a quick turnaround at all), and though the failure rate is better than a 360, it's still a gamble. Just my experience though, YMMV.

Fixed.

I'd look at Dell's XPS laptops. They're very nice from what I hear plus you can actually find deals on them.

i bought a toshiba satellite a couple of years ago. it was a desktop replacement so it had a 17in widescreen and a nice processor, video card and memory. the only downside was the HDD was only 5400rpm, which is slow compared to pretty much any desktop. but it ran games great, half life 2, wow, rome total war, you name it, it could do it. its still going strong, so id reccommend it without hesitation.

I'd suggest the MacBook Pro, you can get a sweet $200 off (I believe) with the education discount...and gain the ability to boot into Mac OS X, Linux, or Windows if you'd like.
