Interesting find concerning GH games at Best Buy

Today I went to the grand opening of a Best Buy near me. I asked them to price match R&C:GC and SOCOM II from Circuit City's Sunday ad. They actually called Circuit City to make sure they had the games in stock, which was a first for me. Usually the ad is good enough for them. Anyway, the BB employee said he couldn't let me price match the non-GH versions of the games. He said since the CC ad showed the games with the GH cover, the pricematch was only good for the games with the GH covers. I said I would just come back Sunday (I believe those 2 games are listed as $20 in next weeks ads) and pick up the non-GH versions. He said I couldn't, because they will pull all the non-GH versions Saturday night and replace them with GH versions. It turned out okay, because the ugly GH red bar was only a sticker on the outside of the wrapping. But it makes me wonder:

1. Is Sony going to stop making the ugly GH covers, and just put the red GH banner on the wrapping only (yeah!!! :D )?

2. Will stores no longer sell the non-GH covers of the games at the GH price (boo!!! )?

3. Or is my BB just nuts?

The stickers on original inserts are only to marke those units still in the warehouse at the time. The cover insert won't be printed again and will be replaced by the GH version.

I have a hard time understanding this obsession with the greatest hits label. It's the same game, folks! I could understand if the original non-GH edition was rare, but by definition a Greatest Hits title is not rare (having sold > 400,000). The only reason that these obsessive-compulsives give is that the red GH label is not considered "aesthetically" pleasing when grouped with the black label non-GH titles. WTF! I think part of it is the "stigma" associated with the GH labels - it screams "Cheap Ass Gamer"!

Considering that some GH games like SH2, or the orig Tenchu for PS1, are enhanced over the orig versions, u would think people would drop the bias against the crazy color label.

I concur. I guess I would opt for a non-GH if I had a choice for the same price . . . but overall its the game that matters most. I will tend to reject games without instructions, case and insert but a GH copy is not a problem.

i see the gh titles as "adding some color to my collection" and not as "sticking out like a sore thumb"

i only would rather have a non gh hit game when its a rare game and therefore is worth a lot more....but other than that, who cares? oh nvm, apparantly plenty of ppl do...

I see them as saving me thirty bucks.
As long as the game, instructions and case themselves are in good condition, I don't mind the 'gh' logo.

It's all about the game and not paying full price for it for me. I don't care if it says GH on it. Actually, it can only say GH and they can even take off the picture and I still will buy it

I hate the ugly greatest hits package too. I don't have any in my collection, but I do like the greatest hits price. So I just buy the PS2 game at Best Buy the first week it becomes a greatest hit for $15 w/GGC. This way I get the game with the original cover.

I'm in this 'who cares about GH' crowd, except I did notice one thing. I had Final Fantasy Anthology and Chronicles back when they came out...but got them taken from me. Bought 'em again when they were GH...and the instruction manual's no longer in color on the inside. That kinda sucks...but it's not something I'm going to lose sleep over.

yeah dude its funny, my target is doing the same thing, the GH version of Tomb Raider AOD is 19.99 but the regular is on clearance for 13.98.....but even i'm not that stupid to buy that game

No need to rag on OP. I prefer the non-GH myself. Seeing as how most people display their games, they'd want their collection to look a certain way, similar to having a preference in color of furniture, computer case, car or clothes.

Sure, you can get a less aesthetically pleasing color/ type which does the same thing, but for less, but you do have choices. Why not choose the one that you like more?

I got mine matched on Tuesday and had a similar problem. I had to have one of the people from the video game section come over and tell her it was cool to PM.

Anyone who wants Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution with extra compared to regular Virtua Figher 4 and hates the red greatest hits label will have to end up getting it with the red greatest hits label because that is the only cover it is printed with.

I don't know why the OP price match for those games. Didn't Best Buy lower them to $19.99? It is that price on the website as of Wednesday.

I really don't see what the problem is either. More than half my PS2 and PS1 games are greatest hits. Unless they made changes to the game (Vice City) it really isn't a big deal.

BTW, I saw Jak II, Socom II, and Ratchet and Clank Goin' Commando, all had the permanent red GH packaging, so there goes any hope that Sony has changed that.

I can't stand greatest hits. Of course I'm all for price drops and letting more people play great games, but what is the point of changing the packaging? Not only does it cost the publishers more money to print up these new inserts, but most collectors don't want them anyway. The only greatest hits I've EVER bought (as in games in GH packaging, I AM a CAG after all ;) ) was Castlevania: SOTN for PS1 and that's b/c I just could not track down a non-GH version for a decent price. I've actually been refusing to buy VF4:Evolution simply b/c its ONLY available in GH packaging. And maybe the fact that I really didn't like VF4.....

I say just put a brightly colored sticker on the OUTSIDE of the packaging so both bargain hunters and collectors will be happy.

You know, I think it's all a matter of perspective...
If you only have 10-20 games, that having greatest hits titles in it may be a big deal...

When you get over 3-4 hundred titles in your videogame library, you just start buying them when they ARE greatest hits titles just because you're getting a good game at a good price point.

When Sly Cooper became a GH title about this time last year, I bought it at Targer, and I got the red GH banner over a non-GH copy.

GH games in my collection isn't a concern to me.

And how the hell did Tomb Raider AOD become a GH title?

I try to only get non-gh packaging myself. I really dislike the coloring, but to me it isn't a huge deal, BUT to lots of other people it is. Goodluck trying to trade any GH game, that's the main reason I only buy non-gh, because that's what others prefer when trading or buying. If I have a choice between 2 of the same games and one is GH and one isn't, I'd be have to dumb to take the GH version, 90% of the time in the long run it's worth less and harder to trade.

i find that gh=cheap price so the color never really occur to me till i read topics/posts like these and yea i thought i saw another topic that was already concerning about gh and their "beautiful" red mark
