I'm leaving for a cruise this coming Sunday, and I'd like to be able to use my iPhone for music. I'm not worried about being able to make any calls or texts, I just want to know which settings to use to avoid incurring any sort of charges.

If I were to guess, I'd think airplane mode and/or turning off cellular data or data roaming, but I wanna be 100% sure I don't return to a huge phone bill because my phone kept fetching my e-mail or I accidentally open Safari or something when I was abroad.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

On Android phones airplane mode would turn off all of the phones radios (and your battery won't drain itself searching for signal), so I think you'd be safe if you switched off the roaming options and left it on airplane mode. And I'm not sure about At&t but when I went to the Carribean last year my phone couldn't find any Verizon service from the moment I stepped on the boat anyway.

You can also just turn off Roaming. Go into the settings app, then General and then Network. Switch of "Data Roaming". You can also turn off all Data with the "Cellular Data" toggle right there as well. If you want to disable calls and data, just turn on Airplane mode. You can still use WiFi by then going into the WiFi settings and selecting a WiFi network.

do this

also dont make calls and answer any on the ship if you dont need, its like 2.49 a min and i think on cruise ships its like 20.48 per mb used(.05 a kb) or it might be 5 something(.005 a kb) but still nothing you can do about it if used
