iPhone is older than you think.

No way people are already going crazy over this and it is still a few months away... If it wasnt gsm I would get it in a heartbeat

That Iphone is one that was made by Infogear (did you even read the page?), which was bought by Cisco, who is now suing apple for infringement of their copyright/patent/trademark/whatever.

It won't fail if they get Billy Mays to do the commercials!

The thing that shocks me is that it's supposedly (I think I read this somewhere) that Cingular has an exclusive contract for it. TMobile runs on the same frequencies, so I'm sure it could be unlocked and a SIM put in to make it work.. but for the most part, that'll mean even more subscribers to the shitty and evil Cingular network. Oh well.. it's better than the RAZR at least :)

Wow, I guess it takes awhile to actually develop something like this.

I don't think it will be nearly as mainstream as say the Razor, but I dont think that it will be a complete flop either. The Mac fanboys and gadget lovers will buy it, I'm just not sure if that audience will be big enough to cover all of the R&D costs, but who knows?

$500 with a 2 year contract.

It's a cool phone and all, but god damn that's a lot of money.

You can almost buy a Wii and X360 with that.
ps3 or iphone....hmmmm
Zen Vision W 60gb + PDA + Razr(vzw) + $150 to spare ftw?

Quoted in hopes people will actually read shit before they comment.

The RAZR didn't even get to be wildly popular until it dropped to $100 or less with service plan. Sure Apple will initially sell a bunch of the iPhones because like someone mentioned there's a rabid interest in it right now but it won't be widely purchased until the price comes down quite a bit. The average person (non-tech gurus) will not spend $500-$600 on a phone. It just won't happen. It will be interesting to see how it fares in the long run though...

The Apple nuts will buy it in a heartbeat. After that, who knows. Given Apple's penchant for not reducing prices that much, I see the iPhone being discontinued before it hits under $300.
so jus in case none of u knew,

If you carry a bookbag everywhere. I'm not a kid or a drug dealer, so the all-in-one aspect is interesting to me.

Not that I'm supposed to talk about internal documents or anything, but folks around here (Sprint/Nextel) are interested to see how this turns out. I'd say about 70% of the people I talk to say that it will be a smash hit, and few if any of them are your typical "Mac person", the 30% who aren't so sure are the more techy people who know that the Cingular network isn't currently built to be capable of high amounts of data transfer. Cingular has one of the lowest market shares in terms of data services and doesn't have any exclusive partners outside of Apple on this deal. So while it may be great to download weather and whatnot direct to your phone, it won't be instant (unless you're in a WiFi hotspot where it will be the same 54G transfer rate as a computer).

Take that with a grain of salt I suppose. You won't be able to direct download iTunes to the phone either, you still have to dock with a computer and deal with all of that nonsense.

My question is where do you buy it? At an Apple store or at a Cingular store? Also, will 3rd party dealers be able to sell the iPhone or will it only be available at a Cingular Retail location or an Apple Store.

If you work at Nextel, can I ask why the hell your service is so terrible compared to other companies I've tried (Verizon)?
