I drive a Chevy Equinox with a factory installed CD player. No frills, no changer, no Aux input. I'd love to be able to use my Ipod in my car, but I'm sure I'd have to buy some sort of adapter for the stereo itself, and then have it installed into the wiring?

My main problem is, the car is a lease and I have to give it back in 2 years, so I don't really want to go doing any permanent stereo switching that I can't easily undo when it goes back to the dealership. Any suggestions on any good products to buy? Or even better, are there any places that do this sort of thing?

Also, I have tried those FM tuners, but in the NYC area, the airwaves are just too crowded. I can't get them to work that well.

I have a leased Honda Accord and put in an Aux ipod interface into my car just last weekend. It plugs into the back of the head unit and it fools the stereo into thinking it's a 6 disc changer. I bought my connector from these people http://www.logjamelectronics.com/ipodgm.html they look pretty expensive for GM so just copy down the number and do a ebay or google search for a cheaper store.

Also I have taken apart 2 leased cars both Honda's and put the plug in. I think as long as you don't drill a big hole in dash they don't care. I left the other one in my Civic when I returned because I was to lazy to take it out. When they sold it on there website they said "03 Honda Civic with Ipod Connector" and charged another $500 for it, where I paid $50.

I put one of these http://www.crutchfield.com/S-nqpFYNhrEXj/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=771&I=142FMMOD01 in my wife's car. It's an FM modulator, but you plug it in between the facotry antenna and the stereo. I had the same problem with wireless modulators in Dallas but this thing worked really well. It was a little noisy but it sounded a lot better than the cassette adaptor I use in my car. It didn't require any destruction or modification of the car.

If you don't want to install it yourself, you can still order it from Crutchfield and get a local installer to put it in. I have no idea what that would cost.

Unless their policy has changed, you can wait for one of Best Buy's free install deals, and have them install it, and then (this was like, 4-5 years ago, things could have changed) when you get ready to sell the car, bring the receipt and your old stereo in, and they will reinstall the factory equipment for free.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I'm going to go to my local Best Buy and see what they can do for me.

Also, maybe I'll call my dealership and see what they may be able to do. I know it will be more expensive but I doubt I'd be penalized for a modification made by a dealership.
