IPOD: Life of Batteries

I have heard that IPOD batteries die in a year or so.

Does anyone have any experience or know anything about this issue?

Bullshit. I have a 3rd gen and got mine junior year of high school.

I'm now a sophomore in college.

If you charge the ipod FULLY WHEN YOU FIRST GET IT, the lifespan should be fine. Most idiots just start using it when they pull it out, which SEVERELY kills the lifespan.

I guess they are just regular LiIon batteries, and the target audience (mainstrem [read: idiot] consumer) doesn't know you are supposed to keep the charge from depleting completely and top it off whenever possible.
so anybody know the typical life span if charged properly ?
Lithium lifespan if used properly can be as long as 10 years, but usually die out before then. Odds are if you take care of it, it will last you about 5-8 years assuming everything works out.

With regular usage, like with an MP3 player or GBA SP, it should last 3-5 years.

The problem with the Ipod is that you can't replace the battery, you have to send it away and pay Apple to fix it.

You can do it yourself with instructions off the net if you're halfway compotent.

If you're worried about batteries, get it at Best Buy, or somewhere else that offers an extended warrenty. Mine was only $50 for 4 years, and it's already been in for repair 3 times. (I've had mine for about 9 months) Well worth the money, and at least at Best Buy, the warrenty covers the battery.
