Ive been faithful to my zune...Im sure there will be some to mock me for it but the price I paid at the time, and the use I got out of it, Im completely happy with it...Its getting to the point where its breaking down, having minor issues, charger cord getting old not working all the time....Ive decided its time to get a new player and with most of the podcasts I listen to be more readily available on Itunes, I guess its safe to say Im going the Apple route.

I dont have to have a video player to it, but if the deal was right for one that had it, I wouldnt argue it. Looking at the apple refurb site-
http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC008LL/A

That didnt seem like a bad deal...Im just not well informed on what to expect on apple pricing etc. My main concern is buying a refurb but being from apple, Id assume it would be a top notch one.

Whats the best route to go on getting one? Thoughts and suggestions on other models of Ipods? Im mostly just needing it to play mp3s.

Any help is appreciated!

How many GBs of music do you have?

I have that exact ipod touch. It's a nice item. The 4th gen touches are a little faster, but I don't think it would be enough to worry about.

Reviews of Apple refurbs tend to be great, so I wouldn't be too worried about that.

You don't want the 2nd or 3rd gen iPod touch, they will almost certainly be dropping support for it soon and spending money on it at this point would be futile. Once you get your hands on the touch you will want to utilize every feature of it, trust me. You can't do that with outdated hardware that apple no longer supports. The biggest advantage to the 4th gen touch is that it has a camera and a built in mic. The built in mic is huge considering how many apps use it.

The 4th gen touch is almost outdated as it is. If you are looking into a touch I would personally wait until the 5th gen comes out, probably in September, its just too close to that release date to waste your money on an apple product that will soon become outdated.

I have the 4th gen touch and most apps crash constantly on it, I can't imagine having something even more outdated. The 4th gen just doesn't have enough ram or power to support all the apps out there as it is, so I would definitely wait for the 5th gen touch. Trust me, you will thank me when you can get the latest device because you waited.

As I said, I have the third gen touch and have no issues with crashes, etc. If it is primarily a music player, then I think he'll be pretty happy.

The camera in the 4th gen is a nice bonus that I had forgotten, however.

I recently bought a used iPod from Gamestop. Now, the first one I bought was from their website, it was a 4th gen Classic, 20gb. I bought it cause it was cheap. It wasn't refurbished, but a scratch and scuff model. Well, it sucked. It had hard disk issues and was just way out of date. I didn't realize. But anyway, so I returned it to the store and noticed they had a bunch for sale there. I ended up grabbing a premium refurbished model (as they call it) 4th gen iPod Nano for $80 (8gb). I had some gift cards which is why I was determined to get one at Gamestop. Anyway, it's awesome. It's very clean, works perfect, and is like new all around. So going to Gamestop might be an option, but I would definitely go to a store as opposed to online so you can look at and play with it first. One other odd thing about it was when I bought the one online, it didn't take 10% off used for Powerup (which I know they don't for consoles, or didn't in the past), but when I bought the one in store they did take 10% off.

Size wise Im looking at a min of 30 because thats the zune I had, so with apple Im looking at a 32gb. Its definately mostly for music and podcasts so technically I dont need a touch, but if I did, Id put vids and pics on there too for shiggles.
