TEHRAN — Iranian Intelligence Minister Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejeie said on Friday that Israel had planned to assassinate Mahmoud Ahmadinejad around the time of last month's presidential election.
The Fars news agency quoted Ejeie as saying that Israeli officials had met members of the exiled Iranian opposition group, People's Mujahedeen of Iran (PMOI), to execute the plan.
"The Zionist regime had met with the hypocrite group (the term Iran uses for the PMOI) on the sidelines of (a meeting in) Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt and in Paris to assassinate Mr. Ahmadinejad," Ejeie said.
But the PMOI set some conditions for the job, he said.
"The hypocrites set some conditions for this job and asked that the US and others remove their name from the (terror) black list," Ejeie said.
"The enemies even approached the rebels in east of the country to achieve this aim," he added, referring to Sunni rebels who are engaged in a rebellion against Iran's Shiite government.
Tensions between Iran and Israel have particularly worsened under Ahmadinejad who has regularly launched anti-Israel tirades.
Soon after taking office in 2005, the hardliner said Israel was "doomed to be wiped off the map" and followed it up with another diatribe, saying that the Holocaust was a "myth."
Israel is one of the main opponents of Iran's nuclear programme, along with Washington and other global powers.
Ahmadinjead was re-elected on June 12 to new four-year term.
Wow.

But seriously, I think anyone with even the slightest clue of Israel-Iran relations would assume that the Israeli government dreams about killing Ahmadinejad every day.

I'd be more surprised if they didn't have standing assassination plans for most every head of state in the middle east.
I, too, believe news that comes out of Iran.
well, it is better than the left wing media here.

You're seriously saying that the Iranian Intelligence Minister is more credible than CNN? That's a new low for you, Ram.

It's like you guys suck the dick of the Israel haters and show the world your cum stained faces when you're done. Look at me! Iran is great! He even gave me reach around!
You're saying cnn is left wing?

:whee:
CNN is often lumped in when you conservatives talk about the left wing media. Who else is out there?

MSNBC? Super left wing but hardly a blip with their viewership.

The New York Times? Do left wingers even read the paper anymore?

Please enlighten me on the official conservative list of left wing media outlets.
What do you mean by you conservatives?
That's right. You're not conservative. You just love running your mouth about how you love reading my posts but never add anything to the conversation. I just thought a naturally combative asshole as yourself had to be a conservative. My bad.

Settle down there killer. You're going on about me being combative? Read your own posts

I wonder if retro-reading any of your historically one-sided, predictable-as-a-pamphlet, partisan, cry-a-thon posts after applying this stunning new revelation would help them make any more sense.

But I don't hate my job that much. ;)

Before you get your g-string in a twist, I'm teasing. Kinda...

+1. This ranks up there with the shocker that the CIA had plans to assassinate al Qaeda leaders. No shit, Sherlock.

Israel just follows what the US does. It serves their interests. Also, the comment of holocaust being a myth is true in the way we have come to know it. But in this case it only serves as a form of arab anti- judaism.( That's right kids, not anti-semitism, semitic refers to the three semtic languages spoken by Christians, Muslims, and Jews. Its not sensible to be anti-language.) Anyways, Israel is as much of a crap terrorist state as any other terrorist affiliated middle eastern country. We just don't have the tendency to see companion bullies...errr.. allies... of our own country as terrorists.

Did you ever consider that news, or information that a person has come to understood by means of their own subjective and biased mechanisms, is simply delivered by an outlet be it a news station reporter or a politician from a region that our country does not take very kind to. In other words, neither you or I can attest to the validity of of what Iran says nor what CNN says. News is not fact. You never know...
Is anyone really going to feign shock when we wake up one morning to the news of Israel bombing Iran?
Depends on if they use nukes or not. If they do, hello World War 3.
Israel just follows what the US does.
You have it the wrong way around. The US follows Israel's orders.

You do what AIPAC tells you to do or you get labeled as an anti-semitic politician.

Seriously, the problem with Iran is the leadership. I bet the 70% of the population, who are supposedly under 40, hate the current administration. The election was a sham and if the Iranian people actually had their way there wouldn't be crazy shitbags in charge of Iran.

Old Mahmoud is a socialist. He's supposedly quite popular outside of major cities because of his programs to lift people out of poverty.

I'm surprised they haven't already had the crackpot killed. And is Iran really shocked after all that "wipe Israel off the map" stuff the guy said? All those Holocaust denial conferences he's held? if I were in charge over in Israel, Iran would have been dealt with by now.

The amusing part is watching white supremacist forums defend Iran. You'd think they'd want Iran and Israel to destroy each other.

It can probably be inferred here without saying, but the participants in such forums aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed.

You do know that the president in Iran holds like very little power and can't really do much

Okay...which industrialized countries DON'T have plans to assassinate another country's leader(s)? I mean, really.
You do know that the president in Iran holds like very little power and can't really do much
And how exactly do you know this?

For centuries, people "knew" that the earth was flat.
