Is DS backward compatible with GB?

I'm thinking of buying a DS. Does anyone know if DS can play GBA, GBC, or GB games?

The e-Reader doesn't work on the DS either. It takes 5v, and the DS only give 3.3v.

e-Reader won't work on the GBA SP, will it? I'm pretty sure that it has a plug that goes to the same socket that the GBA/GC link cable uses.

e-Reader does work on the GBA SP, you just put the it where the game carts go and the link plug hangs over the side. It does have the plug but it is not used with the GBA SP.

The plug on the e-reader is just a pass through so you can use it and a link cable at the same time, since the e-reader blocks the link port on the original GBA.
