Is Halo a first-party game for Microsoft?

If that is the case, then didn't Microsoft state that all first party games would be 50 bucks while third party games would be 60 bucks?

So then why is Halo 3 selling for 60 bucks everywhere?

Yes, and because everyone is going to buy it anyway, they might aswell charge $60. And I am sure the developer costs for Halo 3 are much higher than those of a game like Fuzion Frenzy 2.
Because the same amount of people are going to buy it whether it's $50 or $60.
..and they can use the "It's 2nd party" defense too.

They changed when Gears of War came out. Besides, we knew it was only a matter of time.

Isn't Bungie considered 2nd party?

Vampire Rain, also published by Microsoft, is a low budget game yet it still retails for $60. The day of the $50 launch game (that's not completely crappy) are all but gone.

And no, Halo isn't 2nd party. 2nd party requires an otherwise free developer to be making games for a console company. Bungie is owned by Microsoft, and thus it's a first party game.

But Gears of War is published by Microsoft, so it is considered first party. Epic does not make any marketing decisions with the game.

Gears was published by MS though, so one can make the argument that it should have been $50 if they were going to stick to their word.

At anyrate, I don't see any big games on the 360 ever launching at $50 again, first party or otherwise.

The $60 price is here to stay :( One of many reasons I'm still hesitant to jump on board.

There are lots of cheaper games you can get now, such as used titles and the Platinum Hits line. You don't have to buy games the first day they're released.

there are only a few games that haven't met that price point. I think the reason Blue Dragon, vampire Rain, and Tenchu launced at $60 is because the audience is niche enough thaat they will pay that price for it. Don't expect Viva Pinata Party animals to launch at $60

I know, that's why I'm holding off. The games I really want haven't dropped yet. Really only Oblivion and Gears interest me out of the current releases, with several coming soon like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3 etc. interesting me also.

So the other reason I've waited is the game library hadn't appealed to me, on to off $400 (and now $350) being a good bit more than I'm willing to pay for a console, and finally the high failure rate.

I'll think more seriously about taking the plunge when the 65nm chip falcon models are out and plentiful, the premium drops to at least $300, and a couple of the games above are $30 or less.
Sony said the same crap with PS2, and that didn't work well either.
All first party games were $40 until games like SOCOM II, Jak II, etc. were released holiday season 2003.

At least some did come out for $40 on the PS2.

Only the really big games came out at $50 since people would buy it regardless. It's a good business decision just like H3 being priced at $60. No one is not going to buy it due to it being $10 more than promised, its a big game.

Two words: Development Costs

They figure the people who want it will pay the extra $10 no matter what. Development for next gen is getting really costly to make them look good instead of looking & playing like a last gen game. Companies can't exactly eat the costs and expect to stay in business, so they have to pass the cost onto consumers.

not this fucking argument again. I love some douchebag here argued to death how Gears of War wasn't a first party game when it's clearly published by Microsoft Games Studio...................

Halo is as first party as you can get considering they own bungie studios.

wait... if halo 3 is first party, wont that mean us lucky (or unlucky) few that work in retail, and are in the microsoft expert zone, will be able to pick this game up for $9, like gears, crackdown, etc etc.???

if so that will be bad ass.
