Is it just me or does the new MS FS X need a extremly high end PC to run?

So I was at my brothers house watching tv when the tv ad for MS Flight Simulator X comes out. While nice and all, you could tell that it wasn't running anywhere near 30+ frame per second, more like choaking out 10-15 frames. I downloaded the demo awhile back, and even on my P4-3ghz 2gigs, 6800 gt 256 card it really choaked. Who ever made that tv ad up must have had a hard time running that program without cranking down the details.

Looks fun but I really dont want to shell out 50/60 bucks for a game that barely chugs on my system.

From what I've heard, this game was released about a year too early. You might want to wait a while for the new DX 10 stuff to hit the market.

anything that gets built now will handle it...but that's as long as you're spending the ton of money to make it rule.

MS Flight Sim games have always been way ahead of the hardware curve. Just check out any review of past games in the series. It's more sim than game, so it needs lots of hardware to run all the models for the plane and the environments. The frame rate shouldn't affect the handling of the planes much as planes don't turn on a dime, so they don't require lightning-quick reflexes to fly.

Oh and while you're sinking your money into some hardware, get a nice HOTAS setup. It makes the experience so much better.

This is why PC games can run at different resolutions and effects levels. Not everybody is going to have a machine that handle all of the stuf the game supports.

There have always been games that offered setting beyond the capability of 99% of the machine actually in the user base. A year later that figure has usually gone down to 85% or lower. Plenty of people still don't have the power needed to run Half-Life 2 with everything at max.

you know I picked up this game last night at BB by convincing the clerk that the one in the paper was the deluxe edition for 24.99 instead of 59.99 so he brought it down to that price. :p Anyways two DVD's!!! DAMN!!!!!! this took about 30 minutes to install :whistle2:(

Takes a bit to start up, and after a bit of tweaking, I got it to run at acceptible frame rates..except if I pan around the plane it kinda chugs to load the stuff into memory...but other than that I got it to run where I can enjoy the game. I need to run through the tutorials because its not as easy as I thought. I wonder what else I can do in this game (add ons?)

If you are a regular PC gamer, with a built machine...ie no inefficient poorly built Dell/HP/ etc box, I would imagine you have the system to run it.

Runs fine on my pc, at 1024x768 with decent quality settings, forget right now what the detail settings I have, I did a custom setup to get what I wanted like super high Aircraft detail and dual monitor.

My System Specs are

Win XP Pro
AMD 64bit X2 4600
geforce 256meg 6800xt extreme edition, (slightly overclocked memory and gpu)
2gigs corsair ddr 400 value select
Audigy 2 zs
5 various harddrive (Sata II, Sata 1, IDE)
1 dvd burner
480 watt PSu.

you know I was flying in what I expected to be *restricted* airspace in real life, but never once got a radio in requesting ID or an escort...hmmm...
