Is this considered lowballing?

Well, it doesnt matter. If thats what he thinks then screw him. I say just get it from ebgames and dont deal with him if hes gonna be like that.

i think some people are dislusional when it comes to prices...they think other people on this site dont do any research into the actual value
does this really need a thread?
Yes, I want to see what people on CAG think the definition of "lowballing" is

there you go

low-ball or low·ball (lbôl)
tr.v. Slang low-·balled, low-·bal·ling, low-·balls

To underestimate or understate (a cost) deliberately: “He often took illegal cash payments from developers in return for... low-balling the cost of construction and renovation work” (Boston Globe).
I was working on a deal with someone on here (who will remain nameless) on Golden Sun: The Lost Age for the GBA.

I offered him $13 for it shipped. You can get it from EBgames.com for $14 shipped A/C and he said I was lowballing him.

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/233038.asp

Now I ask you, is that considered lowballing?
When you purchase from ebgames, it does not include the box/manuel, so it's cart only. It depends whether the seller's game is complete or not. In addition, you can't assume everyone has ebgame edge card. I didn't have the edge card until I had to purchase some used games in store and I didn't get the complete 25% discount.

13 shipped is somewhat lowballing. I just sold mines for 19 mint shipped.

You can't assume that there is no manual or box from EBgames - there is a chance you will get it however small that is......... and why the F*** would I pay more for a game on CAG when I can get it for a reasonable price on EBgames. And about the Edge card, well, I have one, so I don't know how that factors in to the whole discussion.......... Isn't this about how much "I" am gonn pay for the game not "other people"

Thanks D-boy

i think you should be able to ask whatever price you want...hate dealing with people who think you are trying to "rip them off" and won't even attempt to make a deal. for some reason, they're under the impression that a first offer is a final offer...they are basically saying it isn't okay to bargain.

'course, this hasn't happened to me more than a couple times here.

Some people in the trading forum are hard to deal with. Some chimpass actually got offended when I asked if a GBA game he had for trade was bootleg.

While everyone is entitled to their own opinion about a game's worth, this isn't lowballing.

He may believe that the game is worth more than that, but that's still a reasonable price for the game.

Possibly a little on the cheap end, yes, but not lowballing, IMO.

Thank You

People get kooky about trading.

Some guy wanted to trade me LOTR:Two Towers for my complete copy of Shadow Hearts. When I feel insulted, I just remember that it's just business.

not lowballing... and its on the cheap end cause its a site for cheap people.

Now if you said something like 11 shppied, that would be low balling.

If he feels you are personally lowballing HIM, then you are, he's not going to trade with you anyway so it really doesn't matter. Sure there is some sense of value to most games these days, but if you are buying from a person they can say and do whatever they want.

And the argument that he would get much less for trading it in is not really a good one in this instance. It is not comparing apples to apples.

You have to remember that "lowballing" is to deliberately make a low bid in order to coax the seller into selling bellow the item's worth.

You, sir, did not lowball. ;o

Wait, so lowballing is like what a pawn shop does? Offering you a lot less than something is worth, because they know you need the money? If so, I don't think it is.

If you buy it from EB online 9 out of 10 times it will come cart only, if you don't care about this then buy it from EB, some people like having complete copies and are willing to pay more for them, especially when it comes to RPGs.

I'd say $14 is a low offer but it certainly isn't lowballing, a lowball offer would have been $12, the game has been out for a while and is rather common so the value isn't all that high, I'd pay $16 for a complete used copy.

lowballing so far as the trading forum is concerned fits into 2 types:

1. Offering a whole lot of people a lot less than an item is generally considered to be worth hoping that one person will accept it. So basically spamming a whole lot of people with crappy offers, mainly you see this more on other trading sites *cough*tgn*cough*.

2. Offering an amount lower than the person will accept expecting a counter offer, which will result in haggling until an agreement is reached. A lot of people hate dealing with this (myself included) and so you'll be told to fuck off.

How is this not comparing apples to apples? He's trying to get rid of the game and both are ways to get rid of it?

Dude, you don't even make sense

I would just get it from ebgame then since that deal ain't working out for you. That's what happen to me. LoL. I think you need to calm down, it seems like there's steam coming out of your ears or something. Just the way you type seem like you're pissed off. No need to start a thread for this. I'll just tell you what you want to hear... you're 100% right blah blah blah. End of discussion. I'll assure your ego and polish it up a bit.

Nah. What I meant was:

Because a trade-in price for ANYTHING is not comparable to the actual sell value. For instance, if you were to trade a car into a dealer, you would get thousands less than what you could sell it to a person for. If people always went by trade-in prices, you could argue that a brand new game is only worth ~30 as soon as it is opened since that's what EB would give you if you traded it in.

yeah, but it's hard to tell what someone will accept. Some people don't post prices and force you to make an offer, which is always a problem, cause you don't know if you are lowballing them or not, since you don't know if they want ebay prices or what. in which case, after making an offer, the seller should just tell you what they want, which makes you wonder why they don't just put a price up in the first place....it's kind of a lame game (though I'll admit to playing it.)

but yeah, if it's like $5 for gitaroo man, then obviously, fuck off is right.

I'm not talking about low offers, I'm talking about people who reply to every thread where they see game x and offer $25ish for something that came out last week at $50. Figuring if they trade bomb enough people they will get lucky.

Sorry to interrupt your conversation. Can you guys please focus on the OP, not sure if he's getting mad. Thanks.

Thanks mom......... and yeah I think a thread about this was appropirate seeing as this is the "off-topic" forum.......do you really think you posting in this thread is appropriate?

You're kind of a jerk. I think I'd like to do some "Low-Balling" onto your face.

Care for a cup of tea? Or would you just like the bag?

yeah, and I'd like to do some lowballing into your mouth.......

Sounds like you both may have some underlying homosexual tendencies... interesting. And to be on topic, not lowballing at all. Carry on.

I don't even know if you could say it's on the cheap end if it's only a freakin' dollar less than on ebgames. Maybe he didn't know this and THOUGHT you were lowballing, but obviously you weren't.

More importantly, though... who cares.
