With the release of Mass Effect, I don't see too many big titles left in 2007 (Maybe Haze), so post your GOTY with a brief reason why.

Super Mario Galaxy- I'd made me love my Wii again. It's got perfect controls, and gives me the same tingly sensation as when I played Super Mario World for the first time.

EDIT: Haze in now delayed until 1/15, the 2007 game shopping is officially over.

2nd Edit: Now with Poll!

I really want to vote for The Orange Box, but that doesn't seem fair. Maybe just the Half-Life 2-and-episodes 3/5ths?

Then again, I just got Galaxy yesterday....

I don't know. So far it's Bioshock maybe (with MP3 a close second) but I have CoD4, God of War II, The Orange Box, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect and Rock Band to get to. Ask me again in the summer.

I haven't played Mass Effect. I have hit up most of the other big releases this year including Halo 3, CoD4, Bioshock, the Orange Box, Forza 2, etc etc.

2004 - Metal Gear Solid 3
2005 - Resident Evil 4
2006 - Gears of War

*drum roll*

2007 - Bioshock

Dunno why other than the fact that it kept me more occupied and interested than anything else out there. Second place probably goes to the Orange Box. Lotsa good FPS' this year.

Just thinking about it makes me feel like my head is gonna explode. Too many worth considering.

BioShock comes pretty close though, seriously.. amazing game.

Orange Box, if that doesn't count because it's a bundle,
Half-Life 2, if that doesn't count because it's a port,
Half-Life 2: Episode 2

Runner-Ups are Portal, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty 4... nothing else was all that great this year.

I haven't played Mass Effect yet (I'll rent it on Friday) it could be in there.
And I haven't played Uncharted because I don't have a PS3, but it would probably be in there too.

Exactly what javery said. Well, except that I did play God of War II, and won't be playing Rock Band or Halo 3. So mostly what he said.

In other words, Bioshock.

GOTY Multiplayer: Halo 3

GOTY Singleplayer: I'm not done with Galaxy or COD 4 yet. I thought Bioshock was overrated, so thats out of the picture. COD has had some "OMFG THAT WAS GREAT" moments thus far, but I am sure that Galaxy will give me those tingly sensations of being a child and playing Mario 64 on a snowy day. Damn, this is going to be a hard one.

Although Portal was a fun game, it is too short to win this prize. I would say Portal wins for innovation, since making a great puzzle game in first person view is quite the feat.

Uncharted.

Awesome in every way.

Ones that almost made it: The Darkness, COD4 and Ratchet and Clank Future.

EDIT: Forgot about Assassins Creed as well. It's a fun game to play.

Can't say yet. It was Metroid Prime 3, but I just started Mario Galaxy and want to play Crysis before calling something GOTY. I should also play Mass Effect, though it doesn't seem like that's GOTY material. Well, either way, the only system that definitely doesn't have the GOTY is the PS3.

[quote name='help1']Unimportant totally wrong text here.

If Portal is too short to win, then COD 4 probably is too.

I've been playing my 360 all year and there have been some excellent games, but I'm gonna have to go with Super Mario Galaxy, it's mind-blowingly good.

Haven't played Mass Effect yet, but as of right now...

I would have to say Orange Box, COD 4, or Bioshock.

Nothing has TRULY impressed me this year. And I still haven't played SMG yet so perhaps my opinion will change once I play that. As for now it's probably a tie between Rogue Galaxy and Persona 3. It would be Persona 3 if it weren't for the niggling flaws the game has as well as the fact that it just drags on too long. Rogue Galaxy had a lot more in-your-face entertainment, but it too had a lot of flaws. FYI, my game of the year last year was Suikoden V. It was a long-ass game like Persona 3, but it kept me engaged since I really enjoyed the storyline and characters. And it didn't really have any bad flaws.

Super Mario Galaxy.

Nothing else close...wait, there were plenty of other awesome games - Orange Box, COD4, Bioshock, MP3. Still gotta go with Galaxy though. Too awesome.

The sheer variety of answers in this thread indicates that 2007 was a fantastic year for gaming. It seems like just about every genre had a great entry in it, while every system has strong contenders even for epople with multiple consoles.

So far it's Bioshock with Portal as a close runner up. I'll revise this answer after I finish Mass Effect though because I have a feeling it'll be knocking Bioshock into second place.

Too hard for me to say. Loved God of War 2, Rogue Galaxy, Ratchet PS3, and Uncharted. Plus all those 360 games that came out (haven't played them)...not to mention the Wii side of thing. It was a good year for gaming.

So far this year?

Well I haven't played *yet*: Mass Effect, COD4, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Forza 2, NHL08, PGR4, Bioshock or Crysis and those are all GOTY canaditates imho.

So far I would say Halo 3 because I've already put in over 400 matchs online so it has to be enjoyable enough. Runner up is Phoenix Wright 3, followed by Super Paper Mario (which everyone has seemed to forget now thanks to Mario Galaxy)

Come XMas I'll have Bioshock, Mass Effect, COD4, Metroid Prime 3 *AND* Mario Galaxy in my hands.

Forza 2 sounds like one of the best racing games of all time, but I still consider PGR2/3 my favorite just over Burnout, so that can change my opinion to.

Crysis if I had a PC. NHL08 is the first hockey game since NHL 97 to really tear up ratings and If I picked it over NHL2k8 I might have had a fair shot at the sports GOTY.

I don't know, I haven't played Mass Effect yet, however I know it is gonna be awesome. Bioshock is great and The Orange Box has an unbeatable value.

Overall I say:

BIOSHOCK!

Mostly because it was a very unique setting.

When Metroid, Ratchet, and a new Zelda (Phantom Hourglass) are left off the list of most, you know it was a good year.

I havent voted yet, and I wont until i finish SM Galaxy.

Out of the games Ive played so far, probably Bioshock.

Part of me wants to say CoD, but that would be based strictly on the online mp, and I wont vote for a game of that type for GOTY.

I havent gotten too far into Orange Box yet, but I can already see why people would pick that.

And my crazy, go out on a limb candidate: Tomb Raider Anniversary. I liked it that much.

My #1 so far is Bioshock but having just gotten Mass Effect it may change shortly!

My #2 is based on whichever wins the fight above

My #3 so far is Crysis.........It's just so.......random and pretty!

Well of the ones you have in the poll I've played none of them. I've only beaten God of War 2 out of games this year, but I will be finishing Metroid Prime 3 soon. I just have not had the time to play as much as I would have liked this year, but going into next year once I get my PS3 I will be playing alot more.

I made the mistake of leaving Halo 3 off, too. Is there any way you can edit the poll?!?!

Speaking of Phantom Hourglass, perhaps a separate thread for portable games would be in order.

Agreed, I have tons of fun with portable games in general but they never (on my personal lists in my head) get rated alongside console games. The elements that make a portable game enjoyable for me are wildly different from the elements I look for in console games.

Bioshock! Super Mario Galaxy a very close second (probably first once I finish the game). I've yet to play Mass Effect, COD4 or Uncharted.
