Has anyone seen those commercials on TV with the squirrels and dust balls advertising the PSP? I laugh everytime I see them.

Some of the worst, most unfunny, most poorly planned marketing ever.

One of the key selling points of the PSP is its sleek and sexy design, yet instead of showing it off, they show a crude drawing of it.

Another major selling point is the graphics, which aren't shown in half of those commercials. There are two squirrel commercials and 2 dustball commercials, and only half of them show any gameplay.

Horrible idea, just horrible.

But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

i think the commercials are so random and have nothing to do with the PSP. Then again, it is one of the few commercials that gets brought up in conversation. Even though it doesn't show anything about the PSP, it gets ppl talking about it.
They're dumb commercials, not even funny
Yet here we are talking about PSP. Therefore the commercial was a success.

Yes, were discussing a retarded commercial; success!

I love them.

Besides, at least they're better than the 360 commercials since they actually showing the product trying to be sold ;)

The "Hell's Yeah" one is so freaking lame. Those ads are worse then the dreamcast ones that showed about a second of gameplay. I hope they fail in increasing the sales of the PSP. That way I can get one one cheap.

And getting the PSP more and more into the mindset. In the business of marketing, this is a complete success. Yes, I realize the stategy seems backwards. But you know what? The most successful commercials are utterly, utterly stupid.

But it really doesn't... it makes it seem so apparent that the system has absolutely nothing going for it, thus commercials that are completely unrelated.

My favorite PSP commercial is the one where all those people are tossing it to eachother, playing for about a second, then trying to get rid of it. It's like even Sony realizes how much the thing sucks. I'm glad I got rid of mine when I did.

My favorite PSP commercial is the one where all the people use it for 5 seconds and then they throw it to someone else. And to top it off, once the first kid gets it back he's like, "Dammit... not again!" It's really funny because the underlying meaning: the fun dies quick.

But I honestly think that the 'humorous' PSP commercials suck- it doesn't show what the PSP is capable of, it just make wonder who's the idiot who made up that commercial.

The best PSP commercial IMO would be their very first ones, the ones with that cool song by Frank whatever his last name is

Who watches carpet on their psp anyhow?

Haha, I never thought of it that way.

Those commercials are completely racist! The squirrels sound like ghetto slanging black guys, and the dirtballs obviously sound like thickly accented Mexicans. What are they trying to say? That black people are squirrelly, and that Mexicans are dirty? Shame on you and your racial profiling, Sony. SHAME ON YOU!!!

;)

Clearly I'm joking about being offending by any of this, but seriously... what's the deal with the black squirrels and the Mexican dirtballs? Anyone else notice that?
I dont know anyone who owns a PSP that would take it out with them. Its not a tru portable system.
only thing wrong with taking it outside is getting jumped

yo mammas a chipmunk!!!!

yea i didn't think the commercials were funny. I saw this one recently as well as one they said "it's like cheese you can play outside"?

I like one of the commercials because it's funny to hear the guy at the end say "PSP, hellz yeah." Other than that they're pretty stupid.

Remember the quizno commericals with the weird looking face that was mainly teeth?
It was stupid, but got people talking. Wonder if the same people are doing these?

They be better of making a commerical of people waiting in line for an Xbox 360 with one guy in the middle playing a PSP and everyone starts to get near him to look at it.... when the store opens everyone runs past the 360's and starts to fight over the PSPs.

Well, it's not the commercials that would get me to buy a system in the first place, It's the games.

I can only speak for myself though.

I think these commercials aren't meant to target us, informed gamers. It is to spread the word about PSP to casuals who don't know too much about gaming and may not even know the PSP exists. THis way, they have the name stuck in their head because of the stupid ass commercials.
Whether they get you thinking about the PSP is irrelevant. They don't make you want one, do they? Very stupid commercials.
Ugly ass rats sure as hell don't make me hungry for a sub but that was soime damn good marketing.

that would be a damn good commercial...if i was Sony i would hire you, hah :applause:

It actually is all about the big features of the system, its ability to play games, movies, and music. The squirrels and Nut refer to the games portion, the dustballs and Carpet refer to the movies, and the new Cheese one refers to the music ability of the system. It's not that hard to notice, but it's pretty cool.

Weird, I know tons of people that bring their PSPs to school to play between classes or when they've got the free time to play. Hell, I was even sitting next to a guy on my flight home that was playing his PSP during the flight, though he could've used some headphones so I didn't have to listen to his loud game.

Reminds me of some student who left their PSP and carrying case in one of my classrooms less than a week after lauch. At first I thought it was just a camera case since I was borrowing a camera from the art department for the afternoon and it wasn't until I opened it up at the end of the day that I realized that it actually housed a PSP and more. I think between the PSP, the games, and the UMDs there was at least $500 worth of hardware and software just left behind.

Of course, first thing to do was toss that towards the Lost and Found and wait for a student to return, frantically searching for his PSP or case and whatnot. Sad to say, nobody ever returned looking for a PSP in particular and I don't know if it was ever picked up from the Lost & Found.

Really odd. Then again, it was in a school system where if a student lost something like that they would just go out and buy another one. Ugh.

hah, i have NEVER seen anyone in real life holding a psp except in the best buy store kiosks...i wish it was more popular though... :whistle2:/ mine should arrive in the next day or 2

i love the commercials... essentially they have done their job since people remember them and the product so knock it all you want but the fact is its a pretty good commercial.
I dont know anyone who owns a PSP that would take it out with them. Its not a tru portable system.
Really? I take mine evrywhere, I'd have to say it's certainly more portable than most of the stylus orientated DS games. Seriously I'd much rather play SD!vsRaw06 on the ole morning commute than attempting to play Trauma center or Kirby. This is coming fromn someone who loves his DS a tad bit more than his PSP at the moment.

I thought the commercials were funny, in that random Adult Swim sort of way. I think most of the detractors are just using as many excuses as possible to vent their disappointment with the PSP/Sony.

even though the commercials aren't that great, they are very well made for the target audience. Basicly for people who watch Adult Swim (not me) and/or college males (me). Sony isn't dumb, even if the commercial makes them look dumb.

Exactly. I assumed they were trying to capitilize on the 'Random is Funny' trend that makes ATHF successful. I'm on the fence about the commercials, they were clever when they first aired, now they seem a little...erm, annoying.

Ah yes and when I click the info on the Walmart website it links me to Charlie and teh Chocolate Factory and a Martin Luther King movie!!!

hah i finally saw the 2 squirrels one with the "hellz yea" saying...i thought it was funny when that "announcer" guy said "psp....hellz yea" in his laid back kind of boring tone...it DID show gameplay footage though...the 2 squirrels were standing on either side of the psp while gameplay footage was being shown...

i have never seen the "it's like a nut" commercial though
