Anyone have any cool japanese nintendo 64 games?

I have Japanese copies of Mario kart 64 and Waverace 64. They are fun to play because of the completely different in-game sounds and names. The commentator in Waverace sames some really random things, and the sounds Kinopio (toad) make are hilarious!

I don't know if it's your thing but even today, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 is heralded by many as the best pro-wrestling game ever made. I played VPW1 back in the day and while I still preferred the Firepro games, it was no slouch.

Sin and Punishment is another import that was at least temporarily very popular but it has since been released on the Virtual Console so I don't know if it'd be worth paying the premium for the actual cartridge.

Let me tell you, I love wrestling games. When WCW vs NWO came out my buddies and I played it for weeks on end. I also loved Revenge. The games had such simple mechanics with the strong and weak grapple, and were tons of fun. How does Virtual Pro Wrestling compare to WCW vs NWO Revenge??

It's very similar but deeper at the same time. All the WCW and WWF N64 games (well other than WCW Nitro) run off roughly the same engine. That engine is the same one that runs Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 and 2. As such, the games are sort of interchangeable. If you understand how to play WCW vs NWO, you'll be able to play the VPW games.

It's been ages but I want to say that the depth in the VPW games comes from the increased ability to chain moves together. For example, hitting a certain button during a body slam will cause your wrestler to follow up with an elbow drop without missing a beat. It makes the matches look remarkably lifelike (if you ignore the now-outdated graphics). Furthermore, I've heard that VPW2 has a much more robust Create a Wrestler system than any of the US N64 wrestling games.

It's been probably eleven years since I played VPW1 so there aren't many specifics I can give. Youtube has many VPW videos and I want to say that Gamefaqs has translation FAQs and guides.

Long story short, years and years ago I got into the import wrestling game scene via Firepro Wrestling S on the Sega Saturn. It took many hours of setting up and playing matches with translation guides but in the end, it was an absolute blast and worth the trouble. Only the US release of Firepro Wrestling Returns has slowed down my consumption of the great wrestling games that come out of Japan.

only one I own is the Goemon board game. Paid a buck for it at Planet Video (or thats what I think the store was called) when they closed down.

bought Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 off of ebay years ago USED for 80$ lol! I collect Japanese wrestling games, and I like the Fire Pro series, but VPW2 is the BEST pro wrestling game I've played. I had some random Japanese golf game that came with my converter, but I sold it.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 is a really fun game. N64 does have a wealth of great fighting games. I really enjoy WCW vs. NWO Revenge and the 3rd game in the series, the one in the black cartridge (cant remember name)

I remember I modded my N64 in high school in anticipation of getting the Evangelion game. I didn't have the tool to get the screws out so I heated a screwdriver on the stove and burned them out to get the piece you need to take out. I never did get that Evangelion game, anyone here play it?

My brother acquired it a few years ago. It was pretty awful. The first level felt more like rock-em sock-em robots than Evangelion. We gave up not long after starting it up.

You know that Virtual Prowrestling 1 and 2 were the same engine used for the WCW and WWF games right? All made by AKI.

VPW2 is still great, but unless you know and like Japanese wrestlers, I'd say stick with the US WCW/WWF games.

Sin and Punishment was one I always wanted to check out. I never did pick it up and now I see that 2 is out.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 is by far the best wrestling game I've played ever. It had all of the mechanics (sans weapons) of No Mercy without the slowdown. It also had different fighting styles and far more lifelike gameplay. I can understand why they watered it down for the WWF releases since you only have a handful of technical wrestlers at a time, but in puro it's a regular occurence and the reversals were amazing. Matches could easily go from squashes to 60 minute matches depending on your strategy.
