japanese game recommendations for a ps2 n00b

so i just got a ps2...and finding out that i can't find or play gta: san andreas or def jam: fight for ny has made me a little sad.


i don't like rpgs, and i have almost no idea what's been going on in the life of this system, but i'd like to find some japanese games to fill the san andreas void.


already gonna get one of the katamari games, and i saw a game called either "oubijin" or "daibijin" where you shoot a giant woman in a bikini with tanks and planes and whatnot...might be worth the $20 to check it out at least.


however, there are LOADS of japanese games and i'm not sure which ones are good and worth checking out. that is where you guys, the experts, the "heads" come in.

If you're gonna be playing import titles your run of the mill American PS2 isn't going to be able to do so. You'll need to swap the disc out or mod the system. Either way, I've no idea as I've never done anything more than run an NES emulator on my Dreamcast several years ago
 
This thread confuses me. Why would you buy a PS2 if there aren't any games that you really want? It seems like a waste of money to go and buy a system and then complain that there aren't any games to play for it.

you're probably confused because i didn't say any of that...


where did i say there aren't any games that i really want?


where did i complain that there aren't any games to play for it?


if anything, there's too many games i want for it...that's why i want to get the ones that are really great...

Why did you buy a JAP PS2? You could always get into fighting games. There's Guilty Gear Slash, Melty Blood, KOF XI, and many many more games.

fighting games shouldn't be an issue really...i really just want some old school street fighter 2, and i know the ps1 versions aren't that hard to find. thanks for the suggestions though, i'll keep them in mind!

sorry, i asked for japanese game recommendations and didn't expect people to start lecturing me on importing or interrogating me about the details of my ps2 purchase :D
