The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Wow, I don't remember reading Virtue's Last Reward Compatibility before, maybe that's a new patch. It's so touch screen heavy though, this is a good sign for other games out there. Maybe they added a cursor.
I remember that Virtue's Last Reward had the option of using the analog sticks instead of pure touch. While it was often more convenient to use the touch screen, it would not be impossible to play the game without it.

The Playstation TV is going to be an interesting little offshoot of the Playstation brand. While it would be a little hard to recommend on it's own, in combination with a PS+ subscription it could actually be a fairly decent bare-bones system. As always, the continuing issue is the bloody memory cards.

I'm definitely getting the PS TV. My main reason is Dualshock 4 support (hopefully same compatibility as the DS3). It's just hard to go back to the DS3.

Now, I wish Nintendo made something like this. Though I understand they already have the foothold in portable gaming, and marketing such a thing would be a bad choice. Especially with new 3ds on the horizon.
I had Natural Doctrine ordered for vita to play on the PSTV. Got nervous when I saw it not on that list, so I called NISA to confirm. They said that list was off, that ND did in fact work on the NA PSTV. So I'm hopeful a few other games that weren't listed are actually going to work when it comes out.

Edit - Just got my Ar Nosurge tracking number :D/
That's good to hear. I hope the list is updated before launch.

And mine shipped too, should be here before the week is out =)

They've done it before. The Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player were both great. Playing Fire Emblem Sacred Stones on the GBA on my TV was awesome. It's a great way to get some old gba games off the backlog without having to stare at a little screen.

Ever since I saw the gamepad on the Wii U I've been hoping to see a DS player attachment.

PlayAsia finally shipped my copy of Danganronpa, so now I can't wait to break in my (future) PSTV with it :D

:ds: Dragon Quest V available on GameStop for $24.99
http://www.gamestop.com/ds/games/dragon-quest-v-hand-of-the-heavenly-bride/73018

It was available at Best Buy for $19.99, but after I ordered it appears to be sold out. May be worth watching though.
I ordered one last time Gamestop showed it available for shipping. It stayed open for 3 months before they finally cancelled it. I'll try again though, what the hell, thanks for the post.
Looks like another reprint. It's back in stock online and every store around Dallas (near Gamestop's main warehouse) suddenly has copies available.

Ok .. anyone got any strange packages from NISA lately? What the heck is this thing?

This is weird. I got a couple packages the other day. I dont know what they were from, but when i checked the shipping address it was the same address that NISA stuff has been coming from in Texas lately. These two packages though only contained a small little plastic square container pictured above. They were in those priority mail size small rectangular boxes, and padded on the inside. I still have several NISA packages from this month that i havent opened so i checked the address and they are exactly the same. What the hell are these things? Did anyone else get them? They're empty and i have no idea what theyre supposed to be, there was no shipping slip in the boxes

The case in your Danganronpa 2 LE that holds the coin is scratched/damaged. They mailed out replacements for known damaged editions. If you're keeping it sealed just know your coin case is damaged.

It apparently has not hit the boston area, maybe it's only for places near gamestop warehouses. I'm still looking for a complete copy.

ftfy.

In the Vita it's an annoyance, but an understandable one. PTV, though...people are going to hook it up to their TV and multiple people in the house will try to game from it. It's going to cause issues.

Memory card prices are annoying, but they're not that big a deal IMO.

They upgraded my package from the usual FCM to priority 2-day.  I'm guessing it will be on my door today or latest by tomorrow.

Also, :vita: Valhalla Knights 3 is $20 on amazon right now.  Debating waiting for another $5 price drop.

Yeah, these are the coin cases from Danganronpa 2 LE. Did you request a replacement box? Otherwise, their shipping department probably goofed up, and sent replacements to you, instead of to who may have actually requested them.

Earlier this year when the first game came out, some customers received 2nd copies of the game that they didn't request. The main office sends request for replacements items to their shipping warehouse, and this stuff seems to happen more often than not, due to some form of communication breakdown between the two. Just keep the stuff and don't worry about it.

Yeah, I just saw that price drop on Amazon, but after scanning the generally poor reviews, decided to wait for $15.

I'm with you, usually $10 is my price point on games, so I may hold out. The game is not in short supply... is it? The first two certainly did not stand out.

How would they know your coin case is damaged without opening the LE?
There was a letter in the shipping box saying the coin boxes were damaged and replacements would be sent out. They knew which ones during the packaging were damaged. I never requested a replacement so if you randomly got one them most likely the one in the LE is scratched/damaged.

Does BB usually ship pre-orders out on the day of release or do they ship beforehand to arrive on release day?  Wondering because I have Hyrule Warriors pre-ordered and it is a friday release...

You won't get that from GS. All stores were told to throw regular DS cases away for almost 2 years now.
One store in my area apparently didn't get the memo, as I picked up a complete Mega Man ZX Advent from there just last week; they had a bunch of other complete DS games, as well.

According to what their CS told me, the coin is loose in the box if you got one of those replacement cases. Supposedly the damaged cases weren't even included in the affected LEs.

Well my coin box came scratched with the coin included. It wasn't loose or anything but it came with the letter. I'm sure they just sent them out this way so there wasn't a delay in receiving the LE. I got the replacement coin box yesterday.

Does Danganronpa 2 ever get... Better? I loved the hell out of the first, and it's definitely staying on the top games of the year for me, but I am now about 11 or so hours into the second game, in the second trial, and found it to be a complete slog. The characters aren't as interesting as the group from the first game, the trials seem to now border on completely asinine, while the location is interesting, it just seems to be a bit too much with what is on the islands... I'm to the point where I pick up the game for a half an hour once or twice a week and have to force myself to play for even that short amount of time. I had it pre-ordered all summer, was one of the few games I was anticipating heavily, and now I can't get myself to care about it at all...

I'm not liking the characters as much in 2 either. Hyoko is one of the few that stands out a bit, and even she's still pretty boring. All of them feel very flat, personality wise. Too many silent types, from Peko to Sonia, to Chiaki.

If you're not interested in the characters 10 hours I really don't think it's gonna get better for you, it's such a character driven game. I actually liked almost all the characters in 2, possibly more so than 1. I would say that after the second trial I got more into it though, to the point that I was playing 5 hours straight a night which I just about never do.

The real strength of the Vita platform is currently in digital distribution. Legacy PS1 and PSP games allow for a significant amount of playable content on the Vita, almost all of which will run just fine on the Vita TV. PS+ subscriptions not only provide numerous regular free games compatible with the Vita, but also discounts on any digital games that go on sale. All of those factors make for a small but compact system that you could game quite comfortably on despite a tight budget.

The memory format serves as a bottleneck. It throttles how much content you can enjoy on the system at a given time. For anyone willing to fiddle with transferring games a few at a time, it's not as big of a deal. But the design of Sony's on-line store doesn't do the situation any favors. They really need to provide a better way for PSN users to view and organize the games that they've purchased/have access to.

It's also a slight impediment to some developers. Anyone looking to really push content on the Vita has to dial back their memory usage to below 4 Gigs for digital titles. If you don't there will be a significant number of players who simply won't be able to download and play your game on a single memory card. Thanks to modern compression techniques and the generally lower specs of the Vita, this isn't quite as big of a problem. But it is still a bit of an issue, and will hold the platform back somewhat.

Danganronpa 2 has become such a drag. I fear the trials as much as the characters just because I know I'm going to have to look up some obscure answer instead of actually reasoning something out. I finished the plat for the first game, but I'm on chapter 4 now wondering if I'll play at all past the main story.

Toukiden Kiwami coming over in 2015. I enjoyed the original game, but hopefully the multi-player is fixed in this version.
Eh I still haven't finished the other one....it's a decent game but the multiplayer is seriously terrible. I hate that when playing multiplayer you have to start with the easiest missions and move forward till you get to your progress you had before. Who thought this was a good idea?

In my opinion, it gets much better towards the end. I do agree that the characters from the first game were much more interesting. I felt like the ending of the first Daganronpa was absolutely atrocious and that the ending of the second one was infinitely better. If you loved the first one, force yourself to play the sequel all the way through. Just trust me.

I really wonder how many people with a Vita are even using a 4gb. It can't be many. That'd be crazy.

I do think they should discontinue the 4gb entirely and nuke that size limitation in the process.

I was using my 4gb card for demos when I switched to my japanese account. Since you can only have 1 account on a memory card at a time it was faster.

I have several 4 Gig cards that I was able to get on clearance. They're actually quite good for the smaller downloadable titles. But keeping track of what's installed on which card can be a bit of a pain.

Several of the issues I've cited could be improved by Sony just revising their store interface. Hopefully that will happen eventually. I'm also hoping they announce Dualshock 4 support for the Vita TV. While I have plenty of extra Dualshock 3 controllers, I highly favor the ergonomics of the Dualshock 4. I would rather use that controller if at all possible.

Thought it was already added.

LOL, yeah it wasn't very good. I liked it better than the new hangman's gambit and rebuttal showdown, though, since you can ignore it. That said, I still bothered to beat all the stages for it.
I'm one trophy away from the plat, and of course it's the one that forces you to grind through Monomi mode for all the equipment. It's not hard, it's not challenging, it's just annoying.

The new hangman's and rebuttal were both beyond stupid. Plus they over-explain everything so you have no idea how anything works until you've retried four or five times. Not to mention that I beat the game without ever playing the new rhythm game properly. I thought you were supposed to press X every time like in the first game. I had no idea you had to hold X and release to the beat. I'm glad the concentration for that mode was so broken, because I never actually lost playing it because of it.

Yeah, I was very much looking to the game as well, and it was a let down. One of the big story twists I thought was cool, but most of the other story stuff was dumb or annoying to me.

Any word on if they plan to patch the Vita games that don't work because of the touch controls?

There's only a few but that's pretty much all that's preventing me from dumping my Vita for a Vita TV.
yeah I want one for hearts so if they did patch/update or whatever I'd jump on it in a second. Even better if they decided to localize fricken innocence since that one is supposedly compatible :/

No clue. I heard something about holding R2 or something and it makes a cursor that acts like touch screen?

lol, I'm apparently 19 hours in, and didn't know that. Don't know how much of that was idling though.

I'm not happy about who the first victim was. I thought it would have been more interesting with him alive.

I really liked the characters in 2. I found almost all of them to be pretty likeable.

It also has probably the best trial out of both games IMO.

The thing I hate most about 2 is hangmans gambit. Horrible.

Just got the plat in Danganronpa 2. Still hated that Monomi mode. Just replay the Secret Stage on Normal difficulty over and over and you'll get all the required equipment. Make sure and wear the Old Man's Grass Skirt so it'll up your chances of drops.

There's lots of things I loved in DR2 over the first one, but I think the main thing that bothered me was how I wasn't really wowed in the way the first one did. For the most part, it's not the game's fault, but I think it just came out too soon. I never really missed the game enough to appreciate it the way I did the first one. Kind of like how much I was looking forward to Virtue's Last Reward because of how long the gap was between it and 999.

Hmm thnx for the info guys. I never did request a replacement. Hell i havent even opened the shipping boxes for them yet. I DID get a replacement for the original one though, as that arrived smashed. Think it was when they first switched to this Texas based company. Maybe i was still in the system for htat, or maybe it is really just shipping them out automatically for people in a certain batch Very weird i didn't get an email about it or anything though
