John Carpenter's The Thing (Blu-Ray) - $7.99 @ Amazon

Good find. I love this movie, I was just watching the new one last night, not as good, but it reminded me of this one, so that alone made it enjoyable enough for me.
How's the PQ on this release? Loved this one, still have it on DVD.
PQ is... OK. Could probably be better, but it's still significantly improved over the DVD. The sound is also greatly improved. If you love the movie, it's probably worth the upgrade.

If you can find it at Wal-Mart it should be $7.88 (unless the price went up.)

Got tired of Amazon constantly changing the price right after The Thing from last year came out on Blu-ray (seems like it jumped from $9 to $16 and everything in between.)

Haven't watched the Blu-ray yet but I love this movie; gives me another reason to watch it at some point.

Right on. Just got it from Walmart at 7.88. It isn't in the 7.88 bin but one of the display shelf.

Worth the purchase. Now, if they can only compliment this with the 2011 version of the Thing for $10 more, it would be a really sweet deal.
yes Ive seen it in Walmart for that and on Amazon. resisted...how was the new one?
I didn't think it was that great. Supposedly a prequel but felt more like a remake until they tacked on something in the end to tie the movies together. CGI effects were ok, but wish they had gone with practical effects (great video showing what they created but ended up being replaced with CGI, so obviously SPOILERS from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2bsXC-uhXQ which looks so much better than the CGI.)

But yeah, it's more of The Thing and ended up buying it anyway, but it's not even close to John Carpenter's greatness.
Hi-Def Digest review (4.5 stars picture quality)

Alternately, the UK version, which has exactly the same video and audio but way more extras, is only $16 shipped at Amazon UK.
That reviewer is smoking' crack.

The Blu-ray release had some added DNR to the release to remove all that "icky" grain. Like others mentioned, the UK release at least retains all the Special Features. The best release so far is the HD DVD for Picture and Special Features.
