the games are pricey, so I want to make sure I get some good stuff. I already have Lumines, Darkstalkers and Metal Gear Acid on my list. What else is good.

Death Jr?
Burnout?
Medevil?
X-Men Legends?

any help would be appreciated.
also do I need a USB cable to upgrade firmware?
how is that new block party game for PSP?

I'll put in my opinion that Death Jr's camera is too much of a pain to deal with. Pass on it.

You can upgrade to the latest firmware through wireless internet through the main menu. It will download to your memory card (needs about 14MB, I think), then you can install it from there and delete the update program when you're done.

Try Tokobot. It's a lot of fun, though the camera can get slightly aggrivating. But at $20 less than the MSRP of most other 3rd party PSP games, it's a pretty good deal.

thanks for all the info.

also which games should I avoid that have really long load times? I remember a customer at work thought something was wrong with his Midnight Club 3 for PSP and it took forever for me to load a quick race to see if anything was wrong.

I heard SD vs Raw had really horriffic load times as well.

Anyway, I just rebought a PSP, and here's some stuff I recommend

Virtua Tennis (you should be able to get this for $30 or less)
Wipeout Pure (this along with Burnout are the quintessential racing games)
Untold Legends
GTA LCS

GTA:LCS
Burnout Legends
Virtua Tennis

I heard Socom has a really terrible single player campaign. I beta tested the online and thought it was terrible also.

Tokobot looks pretty cool.

X-men Legends 2 is the same as the console version. If you haven't played the console verison it might be worth a play through.

Gta,socom,infected,untold Legends,coded Arms,twisted Metal Headon,wipeout Pure,ummm Must Think

The single player is a lot more enjoyable if you have Socom 3, because you can discover some details of what else was going on during each mission. You can also earn unlockables for each game by completing objectives.

--Burnout
--Lumines
--Guilty Gear X2Reload! (import, it's worth the $40.)

I bought a copy of Lumines today. Which was my first priority for this system.

How is Dynasty Warriors? also how long did a lot of you go without a Hori Screen Protector and Playgear case. I probably won't get a chance to get those until the first half of next week.

You'll definetly want to pick up the Playgear case ASAP. You'll feel much more confident in carrying that PSP around with you.

3 games you MUST get:

1. Socom
2. GTA: LCS
3. Burnout
I'm surprised no one mentioned Hot Shots Golf. That's a must buy. It is perfect as a portable game.
oh shit i forgot about that game,i also want it

Look around for the launch tiotles, most can be had in the sub $30 range if you look hard enough.

As for games, here's my top 10 (the order doesn't matter):

1) SD! vs Raw 06 -- The load times are managable and are no where near as bad as some other games.

2) Virtua Tennis -- Awesome game of tennis.

3) GTA:LCS -- It might not be the pinacle of GTA goodness, but it's still an excellent addition

4) Twisted Metal Head-On -- The best of the launch titles IMO, good ole car combat at it's finest.

5) Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee -- One of the best pickup and play games out there.

6) Wipeout -- Fast, gorgeous and fun.

7) Untold Legends -- Nice hack and slash action, despite the lack of online play.

8) X-Men Legends 2 -- See above, only with X-men characters AND online play.

9) Lumines -- The PSP version of Tetris, simple as that.

10) NFL Street -- A way better game of pigskin than say, Madden.

I have Lumines, which I am loving so far. Tetris, with DDR type music.

Thinking about getting X-Men Legends. I heard the PSP version has 4 additional characters that aren't in the console versions?

How is NFL Street 2 in terms of gameplay and loading times. I ask a lot about loading times because there have been some bad ones for PSP (Midnight Club 3), and I don't want to be waiting around forever to start up a game. I was thinking about getting this one, since I am not a fan of Madden games, so I was just wondering how it was.

Thanks to all who chipped in with games to get.

My games (all good, IMO):

Wipeout Pure
Hot Shots
GTA: LCS
Burnout Legends

Picked up Darkstalkers from the TRU sale, but that's still en route since I ordered online.

I'd like to get SD! Vs RAW '06, but I'll probably wait on that one.

Yea, The PSP version of X-Men Legends 2 has Cable, X-Man, Dark Pheonix, and Cannonball. It's suppose to have extra missions as well. It's the version to get if you don't have it on anything else.
lots of great suggestions.

how is Hot Shots Golf PSP if I'm not a big golf person?
If you're not a big golf person, then Hot Shots is perfect for you since it's tailored more for the casual player... it's fun to just pick up and play without being too bogged down with the minutiae of the sport.

Maybe you want to save up $$$ for Street Fighter Alpha 3 in early 2006. I'm looking forward to picking that game up.

my aunt picked up Hot Shots Golf for me today as a late X-Mas present. will probably give it a try sometime late tonight.

Alpha Mix 3 is definitely one of the games I'm waiting for next year for the PSP, actually it's one of the reasons why I finally considering getting one (well that and Lumines).

Super Block Party which just came out, is $30, and a really good puzzle game as well (IMO it's just as good as Lumines)

I love puzzle games, is this the same game as the japanese one called "Kollon"? or something of that sort.

The only PSP game I have right now is Ape Escape: On the Loose. Decent game, i'd recommend picking it up if you could find it relatively cheap. However, there's better games out there for the PSP.

It's actually the only version to get, since it's the best :D

The nine extra missions are all pulled from the comics, kind of like the extra missions in the first X-Men Legends.

Well, you're already enjoying Lumines. NFL Street has some long ass load times and it's much harder on offense than the console version. Wipeout Pure is the shit plain and simple. Tony Hawk is all right if you're into that stuff. I just got Hot Shots Golf, FIFA, Death Jr., and Burnout for Christmas. Hot Shots is awesome. Along with Lumines, it's what I got the PSP for. Death Jr. has the worst camera of all time and some generic monsters. FIFA is pretty cool, it's pretty hard to score so far. I wish I could tell you about Burnout but I've kept my firmware at 1.50 and I'm debating whether to upgrade to 2.0 or use a version switcher to 1.52.

I just got my PSP this weekend, and picked up PoPoLoCrois, Lumines, Tokobot all new, and a used copy of Wipeout for $20. I'm enjoying all of them, particularly Wipeout, with all of the extra downloadable content. A Toys R Us closing near me had a copy of Ultimate Block Party left for 20% off, but I couldn't justify buying another game, especially after just purchasing Lumines.

I'd get wipeout, its a good game both as single player and multi
Lumines is good, if you like brick games, ultimate block party(kollon in j) is good too
If you like the series tan burnout is good, but car simulations suck and all cars spec the same, if you want a real racing kind of game than get oclin mcrea or something as midnight c. 3 is slow, really slow although It palys so so on one of my friends and doesnt on the other. and I dont like need for speed. I dont like the content of gta I think so I dont have it but its supposed to be good, I never heard anyone badmouth it. I played tokobot and it was nice. I'd get a fighting game too I guess guilty gear or dark stalkers

The only game worth the money at the moment is Burnout.

If you want a Puzzle Game, break out the gameboy and Puzzle League, or Firmware Version 1.5 and Tetris Attack. Lumines is a very good puzzle game, but I don't feel it has the same additiveness and fun factor as Tetris Attack/Puzzle League.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

Come January 31, Mega Man X Remake. I'm excited, as long as they don't charge $40 or $50.

I just got a 1.5 PSP yesterday (had been collecting cheap PSP games for a while though)

My collection... with the exception of NBA, what I would also recommend
Lumines
Hot Shots(best game so far that I can play... until I decide to update)
Burnout Legends
Spiderman 2
GTA LCS
Dynasty Warriors
NBA
Wipeout Pure (always loved these games)
Virtua Tennis
Metal Gear Acid
Darkstalkers

Heavy Metal UMD
Once upon a time in Mexico UMD
Dynasty Warriors is garbage on PSP (and this is coming from a guy who is a HUGE fan of the series) Skip it.
hmm... I havent played my copy yet, but having only paid 7.98 for it from Target, I wont feel as bad if it DOES suck
