Just got a PSP. What are some essentials? (Games/Accessories/Memory stick/etc)

CAGiversary!
Title says it all. Just bought my friends psp; the original one. Looks good. Works awesome. I just need some game recommendations, which accessories to get, that sorta stuff. Whats your rig like?

You should hit up target; they're clearancing out lots of psp memory sticks, cases, cables, and games. Some essentials are patapon, the gtas, little big planet, manhunt 2, and you have to try out the demo for MGS PW.

Man, I remember my OG Ceramic White PSP. When I unpacked it and picked it up for the first time I was really amazed at the thing's build quality.

Anyways make sure you get a memory stick. I was also a huge fan of the screen protector, hand strap (not a charm) and the carry case. If you can still find it the Logitech hard form case was amazing and you can print out your own designs for it.

As far as games go? Cor, there are a lot of them. If you get nothing else, pick up Lumines. The game was designed specifically for the PSP and the game play feels absolutely natural on it. I sunk lots of time into MegaMan powered up, Maverick Hunter X, Monster Hunter Freedom (although 2 and 2g were infinitely better), Gurumin, Chains of Olympus, Killzone:Liberation, War of the Lions, Portable Ops, and Loco Roco. Disgaea was good for a while but that game really is a grindfest. Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! was pretty damn good as well. Steambot battle arena was good (mostly because I love that series).

I never did play Patapon though I heard good things about it and it's sequel. LocoRoco 2 looks good but I never played it. Same with Dissidia, Kingdom Hearts, Little Big Planet.

Upcoming? Badman 2, Patchwork Heros, Prinny 2 (very hard game), Zettai Hero (unannounced for US but AWESOME), Classic Dungeon (same deal here), and ModNation racers all look really cool. Peace Walker looks like it's going to be mindblowingly good and a true 'must play' for the PSP.

Definitely get a case for it. Logitech makes a very good one. Screen protectors are a good idea too, but I don't know what ones are good.

For games, I would recommend Dissidia Final Fantasy. I think that's $20 at GS right now. Valkyrie Profile is good and cheaper than the PS1 version. A Kingdom Hearts game is coming out for the PSP, which is supposed to be very good.

Um a high cap memory stick is essential. Walmart and Radioshack have 4 Gigabytes on sale for under $20 occasionally. If you like rpgs, final fantasy 7 is ridiculously cool to play on a portable, and if it's on a memory stick, the battery lasts longer. I really got into monster hunter, but I'm telling you, it has a fucking STEEP learning curve. If you have friends that will play, check it out. FF 7 Crisis Core is cool, and you can also store movies/tv shows on the mem stick, but I think they have to be mp4.

I actually got a universal screen protector, which you cut to fit. It has worked out really well.

Other accessories I use are the little in-line headphone remote. If youre going to use the PSP as an MP3 player this is great because it allows you to leave the screen off while listening to music, which will help your battery life. It alos allows you to leave the hold button "on" on the PSP as it is tough to turn the hold off, without accidentally switching the PSP off as well.

I have the Logitech Playgear case and it is excellent as far as cases go, but I stopped using it on my commutes because it just about doubles the size of the unit.

As others have said a good high capacity memory stick and some video converting software for the PC.

Game wise I would check out the PSN. Theres a good sale going right now and there have been some nice price drops recently. The PSOne classics are great in particular Id recommend Castlevania:SotN, Blood Omen and just about any of the RPGs (except maybe FF: Tactics, because theres a really nice remake that only costs a bit more).

Buy MLB the Show if you like baseball games. It's currently the only game I own on the psp and it's great.

Funny thing is im an OG monster hunter player. When nobody was playing the ps2 game I was max level.

If you're planning on traveling with your PSP, a good case is essential. I have this one and I like it. (It's a little on the big side, but it does a good job)

In terms of games; Prinny, Half Minute Hero, Disgaea, the Mega Man remakes, and God of War are all good. I only have one mini, but Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess is a lot of fun (it's just short). Keep an eye out on Amazon, Newegg ect because they often have lots of great games for $15 or less and XSeed games have a habit of hitting $15 a few months after release.

I have a Lilac PSP with a 2GB card. I'm too cheap to buy a bigger one, but it does the job with UMDs.

A lot of helpful info in here. Planning on purchasing a psp myself and will def use this thread as a helpful guide for things to get especially the games. First couple games I think will be Modnation Racers and MLB The Show 10. I love the PS3 counterparts.

So far I went through GOW. Was pretty good. Now I'm messing with Yugioh Tag Force, MMX Remake, and MHFreedom 2. Makes my morning commute much better.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a must have
so is Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles
The GTA games are all good fun
and last but not least I would recommend you pick up Brave Story if you're into RPG's

I am and will look into it.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (an expansion for 2) is worth picking up if you can find it at a good price. As for other recommendations:

God of War
Syphon Filter (both of them)
LocoRoco (should be dirt cheap by now)
MGS: Portable Ops (avoid Ops+)
MGS: Peace Walker
Ultimate Ghost n Goblins
MegaMan: Powered Up!
MegaMan: Maverick Hunter X
Every Body's Golf 2 (aka Hot Shots Golf 2)
Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero?
Jeanne D'arc (can't be more highly recommended)
DJ Max (if you can get a hold of it the first one is by far the best, check PlayAsia)
WipeOut 2 (forget what it's actually called, Pulse or something)
Virtua Tennis 3
Lumines

Peace Walker
Portable Ops
Chains of Olympus
Syphon Filter:Logans Shadow
What Did I do to Deserve this my lord?
Half Minute Hero
Motorstorm Arctic Edge
LittleBigPlanet
Crisis Core: FF VII
Lumines

Oh and Killzone: Liberation - absolutely loved that game. Just make sure you download the patch to get the last chapter.

Didn't even think it was still available in shops as I'm pretty sure it doesn't fit in the slimmer models without bulging out.

Jeane D'Arc, Final Fantasy Tactics, Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
