Let me tell you something, don't ever listen to CNET. They've been spreading FUD against PS3 for the longest time. Last month was NOT a good PS3 month saleswise in the U.S.
However, you just assume that since PS3 may be selling the least in the U.S., it's doing bad everywhere, but that's not the case. PS3 IS in 2nd place in Japan and selling all right there. Everywhere except the U.K. (mostly GB) and Australia, PS3 is selling the second most on a monthly basis (especially in Spain, Germany, etc.). The main reason why developers have to support PS3 is because the Xbox brand just isn't too popular in Europe while the PS brand is.
Regardless, PS3 isn't going anywhere fast. The GBA STILL sells in the U.S. because:
-Too many casuals in the U.S. feel every handheld is a Gameboy (the Gameboy name sticks, kind of like how everyone use to refer to a game console as a Nintendo, or how people refer to a tissue as a Kleenex).
-There are still tons of casuals (Grandparents, parents, etc.). who have no idea what the Nintendo DS is and/or don't know it plays GBA games. PS2 continued to outsell 360 for a very long time until the recent pricecut and Halo 3. The U.S. market just tends to be behind at times on changes.
Also, there are many people out there who barely know what the PS3 even is. How many times do you see PS3 advertisements these days on TV???
I'll tell you about CNET, they once said:
PS3 is moderate to strong this holiday
here.
Another article claiming Sony is as desperate as they look
here
And there's more articles. Last thing I'd do is trust CNET because they can be all over the place, full of biases which can be good, or can be bad.
Also, you are going WAY too far calling PS3 a failure. I can bring up an article saying PS2 was a failure last gen, and looked what happened. PS3 is even doing better than what PS1 started out doing. And actually, if you were to compare worldwide sales between the 360 and PS3 during the same time frame of release, they are VERY close. The difference is that 360 has been out for longer (so it has more games and Halo 3 is oh course big), and the Wii just has a lot of hype behind it (causing it to sell like crazy).
And no Sony didn't drop the ball you retard. The biggest problem with PS3 is price. There isn't much of a way for Sony to reduce the costs. Those who say blu-ray is the reason PS3 is expensive are delusional, since it costs $8 for a blu-ray diode. The Cell and RSX themselves cost quite a bit to make. There's a whole lot of other pricing I can get into.
You are also spelling doom to PS3 too early. PS3 has now been releasing MUCH better games as of late, such as Folklore, Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD, Eye of Judgement, and some multi-platform games. Uncharted, Haze, Time Crisis 4, etc. come out later this year. PS3 looks to have the best version of Call of Duty 4, which is a HUGE plus. Most all the great 360 games the rest of the year (except for Mass Effect) are on PS3. PS3 looks to have a kickass 2008 lineup with LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, Resistance 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, White Knight Story, Disgaea 3, Gran Turismo 5: Prolouge, God of War 3 (rumor), Home, Socom Confrontation, Killzone 2, and many more. SCE themselves have 100 published PS3 games IN development, which shows they are committed to PS3.
Then go sell the damn thing if you aren't happy with it. I rather you get rid of something you're not happy well than spread your horrible disease of doom and gloom around the Sony forum. I'm perfectly happy with my PS3 owning 17 disc based games along with 14 downloads. Outside of maybe 2 downloads and 2 disc based games, I'm 100% satisfied with what I own. Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD is by far the best game this generation and cannot be found on Wii or 360. Go download some demos and I guarantee you'll find something you like.
HD-DVD won't be winning the format war anytime soon, because they'll never get Disney, Fox, and Sony, three really great movie producers (who cares about Universal IMO).
Guess what??? Have I played a single blu-ray movie on my PS3???? No, and I have a decent HDTV too. I already have plenty of awesome PS3 games to play to give shit about blu-ray. The only blu-ray movie I may watch on my PS3 is FFVII: Advent Children (one of the best movies ever IMO).
Okay... to summarize what you were saying...

CNET!, OP, and anyone else hating on PS3. After PS3 finishes up with HD-DVD, then we coming for 360, and Wii...
