Killer 7 ending = confusing *spoliers*

I finally beat the game (which was incredible by the way.) What I've figured out so far through my feeble mind (and wikipedia) is that Emir killed some form of Harman and the 6 others, who came back somehow in order to be used by the U.S. government to stop the Heaven Smile, who were being used by Kun Lan and Japan to help take over the Western world.

Am I on the right track?
 
I've even read the plot analysis on Gamefaqs but I can only conclude that you're SUPPOSED to be confused. Seems that way with a lot of Japanese storytelling.
 
My interpretation was that Emir killed everyone and assumed the personalities of the Killer 7, Harmon being the 7th personality. Anyway, I always thought that killing the Heaven Smile was more of a survival thing along with revenge on other characters from the personalities' past.

I don't know, maybe you're just supposed to be confused to make you play again just to try to to piece it all together.
