Valve has slowly been releasing more and more of its games for Mac owners since Steam was made available to Macs back in May. With Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal already available, Valve will add another heavy-hitter to the catalog of its games available for Mac with the release of Left 4 Dead 2 tomorrow, October 5.
If you already own Left 4 Dead 2 on PC, you'll automatically own a Mac copy, too. Tomorrow, you'll be able to simply log on to Steam from your Mac and get it installing. That coincides with the release of the new "The Sacrifice" campaign, as well as the release of the Left 4 Dead 1 campaign "No Mercy" for L4D2. Both campaigns are free to all PC users, and will also be free for Mac users (as opposed to the $7 that Xbox 360 owners will have to pay for them). That means anyone picking up L4D2 for the first time on Mac will get the five campaigns that originally shipped with the game in addition to The Sacrifice, No Mercy, and the first L4D2 add-on campaign, The Passing.
As for the Mac version of the original Left 4 Dead, that's taking longer than expected. However, Valve expects that it will make it out by Halloween at the end of the month. Like L4D2, all of the free downloadable content that has been released for L4D1 will come with any new copy of the game that is purchased.
