Edit: I ran across the complete story. If someone is still a fan let me know.

Hey guys. I have been searching for info on the game and alot of sites talk about the plot but they all make sure not to spoil the ending. I really need it spoiled. I know alot of people didn’t really play the game but I figured if there is one who enjoyed it they are probably on this site. The reason Im asking is that Im doing a school project to design the next step of the series.

The game Im curious about is defiance, the last game which was on the xbox. Im trying to get an understanding of a few points:

- How is the time traveling used and where there limitations?
- At the end, what would be the next logical step for the series to go?

I choose this game on the fact that it really struggled in the last few outings and didn’t change the look nor mechanics of how it played. There’s a lot of interesting places to take it and changes that will upgrade it visually. If someone is a super fan please send me a pm or post it in here so I can get a few ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm a fan, LOK rules.

I especially like that one where you play as Kain and you around fucking everything up and end up killing those ahole aliens who put the curse on the vampires

There was a badass part where you use the fog to sneak up and steal a chalice or something while killing those safafin - too cool
The first is the best AFAIC. It was a true Zelda-gone-horror-movie game.
I have the first one on PC but I could never quite get it to work properly. It did remind me of Zelda though..

yeah I remember the PC version needing a very specific video resolution or mode or whatever

the PSX version is where it's at. mint used copies go for 5$ on ebay.

Gamefaqs has a plot guide that details the entire storyline from start to finish.

In my opinion Defiance was a great game and the best in the series since the first Soul Reaver game that introduced Raziel. Defiance had a really good combat mechanic and made it fun (yet still challenging) to take on a group of enemies all at once. There was telekinetic grab system that let you juggle enemies and throw them into other enemies (or off ledges) and both Raziel and Kain had different versiosns of these abilities that made their combat feel both familiar yet still unique. Unfortunately as the game progressed Kain and Raziel both upgraded their abilities by essentially just gaining the powers that the other character already had so once fully upgraded their combat was basically identical. That element right there robbed the game of some of the novelty of switching between characters as you didn't have to alter any of your tactics to suit their different play styles anymore.

I don't really remember off hand how the time mechanic worked exactly but it was more of the same visiting the same areas at different timeframes to discover new paths and alternate routes. I do remember that they changed things up enough so that when you came back to a place you visited before in a new time it didn't just feel like a rehash but felt new enough that it wasn't a chore to run thru it again.

As far as where they need to take the series in the future? Not quite sure. Raziel is gone, Kain is still around and Janos Audron is some ressurected possessed demon thing that Kain feels he needs to hunt down. Maybe they could jump another 1000 years into the future like they did between the 1st Blood Omen game and Soul Reaver and show how the world changed since this new demon has been unleahsed and Kain's Vampire army is gone? The main idea that I think needs to continue to string the series together is seeing the main charcter get introduced then be reborn thru a deal made with a more powerful supernatural creature. Kain was a mortal nobleman murdered then reborn as a vampire to seek revenge. Raziel was a vampire nobelman mudered by his bretheren then reborn as a soul stealer to seek revenge. So maybe take it full circle and have Kain be killed and reborn as a holy Serafin champion who needs to destroy Janos to regain his original humanity?

Hope that helps!
