Legend of Dragoon

Reichan

CAGiversary!
Does anyone phave played this in PS1?
I was wondering also if they released this on PSP.
Please help

I am given to understand from reviews that this game is a fairly generic PS1 RPG. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing really groundbreaking or stand-out. I actually own an original PS1 copy of it, but have never gotten around to playing it. I have a lot of PS1 games to get to before this one. (still haven't beaten the original Blood Omen)

If you are a fan of the standard Japanese RPG formula, you would probably enjoy this game. It wasn't that hard to find a copy back in the day, so I'd recommend finding it for no more than $10. If anyone is charging $20 or more for this game, you would be getting ripped off.

Storyline-wise, it's pretty standard fare, above average graphics (for its era, anyway)- where it stands out is the battle system, which has you timing button presses to overlapping squares to create combo chains... love it, hate it, whatever, but it's not your standard RPG battle setup.

As for prices... black label costs a lot more then greatest hits, which should be easy to get for 10 bucks or less. I liked it, although I made the mistake of listening to Two Mix CDs for background music while level grinding, and got to the point that I can't time the attacks right without a Two Mix song playing. :whistle2:#

Turn-based on the PSP? Suikoden... maybe? Old school PS1 game

Unfortunately, there aren't too many really good PSP RPGs. NIS put out a bunch, and they've all received lukewarm responses.

Suikoden is $5.99 from the PlayStation Network. It's a port of the PSone classic.
Persona is coming out very soon, in updated PSP form.
And continuing the PSone ports, Valkyrie Profile is on PSP. It usually fetches $100 for PSone copies.
If you're into strategy-RPGs, check out Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics on PSP. Both are the cream of the crop for tactical RPGs.

Going even further back, the Sega Genesis Collection has all 3 Genesis Phantasy Stars.

GREAT GAME. The spells are beautiful, the music is great, and the game is very pretty. Perhaps the thing I liked best is you don't just sit and watch your character attack, you hit the button for combos. Highly recommended.

The graphics were really nice but everything else about the game was pretty bland. The story, music, gameplay, and whatnot are pretty much forgettable.

But I wouldn't say the game is bad. If you honestly have nothing else to do, I'd give the game a play through.

This game was a lot of fun for me at the time. IIRC, it came out around the same time as FF8, so after I finished FF, I started Legend of Dragoon. The battle system was unique, and required excellent timing. The graphics were very good for the time, easily on par with FF8. The story and audio were pretty generic fare, however.

Overall, if you liked FF7-FF9 and other JRPGs from the same era, you'll probably like LoD.

Also, almost forgot, it had a pretty cool collection system. Around the world were hidden fragments that you could collect and trade to some guy for a prize. I never collected many, but it was one of the first games I remember playing with a system like that.
