First off - GREAT game, as expected. My sons and I have played through about 4 levels and have enjoyed it very much. And the GC version runs in pro scan and widescreen! I had no idea as I don't think the first one did either.

OK, it's great - but I'm having one problem. The whole reason I ditched my PS2 copy of the first game (in which we had unlocked everything) and bought and replayed the GC version was to have a game save to unlock all the old chars (since I wanted the second on GC for the Wavebirds as well as simply preferring to play on the GC whenever possible). I just looked through the manual and it says you must have an original game save on the same card as the LSW II game save and then you can purchase the old chars as an "extra" from the Cantina bartender. Well, when we go there that part just says "Game save not found" (or something, I'm not playing right this minute).

I checked the cards - both saves are there on the same card. Just to be sure, I copied the original one to the second card too - still nothing.

Anyone else having this issue? Both of my memory cards are the gigantic ones (the 1019), so maybe that's an issue? I've been having issues with tons of games that think the first one is full even though it has 124 blocks free. In fact I had to delete some stuff to get LSW II to save there. (This is one of those annoying games that doesn't even look for the second card.)

I did a quick google search for this problem but found nothing. I guess I should check out the official web site for the game and/or publisher. Guess I'll do that now :D.

Edit - NOTHING at all. I submitted a tech support question to LucasArts, so we'll see what they say. Their GC Lego Star Wars II forum has ZERO posts in it.
Have you tried freeing up additional space, deleting any other games you don't have/play anymore?
Did all that last night after I posted - no dice... Still no response from LucasArts yet either. What I might do later is put both saves on my old 251 memory card and see if it works from that. But if it is really an issue with the 1019 card that is pretty bad because any new game (and especially a big release like this) should be able to handle the 'newer' memory card. It's not like I'm using some 3rd party cheap-ass card - it is the Nintendo one.

That's a real kick in the nuts about the game save thing... Picking up all the characters from the first game was actually a fairly big part of my draw toward LSW II... I'll be picking it up anyway just because Lego + Star Wars = Awesome.

This is about the fifth time today I seen something like this asked on the boards I visit. Makes me wonder if there's a bug or something preventing it. Weird thing is, that all the ones asking were asking about the GC version too.

Okay, did some searching. It's not a bug, you have to unlock the feature to access that old save. Found this one another site, which tells you how to access that old save.

You must pay the bartender 250,000 studs to unlock the item in the extras section. Then you hit start, select extras, select old save file and you can finally play as the old characters in freeplay.

Sounds kinda crappy the way to unlock it.

Well that's all well and good - but it doesn't give me the option to buy that extra - it says "Save not found" where the Yoda extra is (it is Yoda's face like the save icon in the first game).

It is possible that I haven't had 250,000 studs yet and thus haven't triggered this. BUT, the other things I can buy show up with prices even if I don't have enough studs. It would be wierd to put "Save not found" instead of "250,000" there :D.

OK, I played enough tonight so that I had over 250,000 studs.
It still says "Locked: Save Not Found" when I'm in the Extras purchase section in the Cantina!

Next step is to try the 251 memory card. I'll do that tomorrow I guess.

i need to see how this turns out. This would suck big time if true.

LSWII GC version is full price, $39.99, around here, so I'm waiting.

OK, it looks like it is a problem with the 1019 card. I found a fairly useful forum in, of all places, gamefaqs where people were discussing this. Several others have the same problem. Once you get past the "dude you have to buy the extra chars" reponses you get some actual info :D. Not everyone with the 1019 has the problem. Someone was going on and on about it being when they last saved the 1st game, etc... I don't think that's it.

My guess is that it has to do with the location on the card. I've been having problems with lots of other games thinking my card in Slot A is full when it is only about 2/3 full - probably they are thinking it is the 251 card or something. So perhaps those people who got it to work have a 1019 that isn't very full.

So one thing I might try to do is purge all the games I don't need (well, put them on the second card actually as I have 2 1019's in there). Or O could get out my 251... I'll have to play around with it.

Right now I'm having another problem - I'm doing one of the Bespin levels in Free Play and I can't get it to end! I really don't want to turn it off because I got alot of the secrets. But I'm at the Falcon and it doesn't do anything! I've gone back and forth several times and can't find any other places to go. Hopefully this isn't another glitch.

OK, I GOT IT FIXED!

First, on the level glitch - it apparently was a glitch. I quit and replayed the level and after fighting off the stormtroopers the hatch to the Falcon opened. It didn't happen the first time and I was stuck in the level. But it appears to have been a fluke - maybe I left the area while fighting them and then came back. So one tip there - fight them to completion!

As for the memory card, it appears I was right. I put both saves on the 251 card and had no problem - got the "250,000" option for unlocking the old save in the Cantina bar. BUT, I want to use my 1019, so I dumped a ton of stuff off of it (fortunately I have another 1019). Once I got the total remaining stuff less than 251 I tried it out - NO LUCK. Ok, interesting. But going on a hunch I deleted the saves of both games and then recopied them back from the other card.

That did the trick! My theory here is that freeing up all the space didn't really move those games down towards the first 251 blocks - it just left empty holes before them - just like with file deletion on a computer. By recopying them I figure I must have put them physically down in the lower 251 blocks. Someone who knows more about the way GC memory cards can probably say if this is true or not. My evidence that it is true is that I was able to copy BACK many of the rest of my saves, and the old save still worked! After I get done here I am going to copy them ALL back (I had about 800 of the 1019 full). If that doesn't work I'll let you know.

Of course removing everything and putting it back is a pain and requires 2 1019 cards. However, you *might* be able to get away with deleting one or two big files from near the beginning of your memory card, recopying the LSW saves back over, and then replacing the files you removed. It is possible the LSW files will go in the lower spot vacated by the bigger files. Again, I don't know if this is how it works or not but it is worth a try.

So, if you have a 251 card you are fine. If you have a nearly empty 1019 you should be OK too. And it should be OK to pile other game saves on top of them later.

And by the way, a smack upside the head for the programmers who took a shortcut (it would seem) and only look for save files in thely first 251 blocks (as it appears is happening). Also, another smack for LucasArts tech support for not getting back to me on this - seems like a simple thing to test (I submitted the query using their form for the GC version of the game, so they claim to support it :D).

Glad you got this resolved! I haven't gotten LSWII yet, but I loved the first one so I was watching this topic with interest (especially since I also have a 2019 memory card). Tagging this for when I have the same problem. ;)

Just to update - I was able to copy back ALL my game saves so that my 1019 is nearly full again. The old save still worked!

First I made "Luke Bikini Maul" in the character maker (not sure why it named him that - it was Maul's head with Qui-Gon's hair and Luke's black ROTJ body and legs ).

Then I played a bit as General Grevious in the Jabba Palace level. My kids are going to have a blast with this :D.

One minor gripe - when you add all the old characters they shrink the icons for the chars down in Free Play mode character selection so that, even on my 51" TV, I could barely tell who they were. But that's not so bad - it means there are over 100 characters there to choose from!

OK, so I finally got a response from LucasArts. They apparently COMPLETELY IGNORED THE fuckING DETAILS OF MY QUESTION

Hello,

The saves have to be on the same memory card, and you have to turn on the option in the Extras menu in the game. Make sure the card is in slot 3.

WTF?

Why in the hell is the 1019 *still* the source of glitches. BIG thumbs down to Lucas Arts on this one...

Great detective work, io... you're a good man, and thorough!
