title of thread needs to be changed, they did a really bad job of advertising that this is "limited" when every other numbered preorder they have is open. The only thing they did was change one word in the description with no announcement or anything.
 
Soul Reaver isn't a "numbered release" correct ? What it looks like is the Standard Edition is Limited for the Slipcover & Collector's Edition is an Open Order till Feb. 9th. Isn't Soul Reaver just a Distro thing and will be released later on at retail etc etc?

The announcement email and the page on LRG are both missing the “this is not a numbered release” language they usually throw in. Either they missed adding it or I’m wondering if this is their new strategy to drive sales with even more FOMO.

At this point I’m not even sure I trust them enough to not be considering they turned off sales for PS5 just to try to trick everyone into thinking the Switch is gonna sell out soon also. “Better buy it soon, PS5’s already gone!”

Well that made me get my order in for the Xbox version today. I don't want to miss out on the standard release of Soul Reaver collection.

These are numbered releases. The Xbox version on the page says release #29 for Xbox.
 
There's no language to indicate Soul Reaver is numbered, so my guess is that it's getting a retail release a la Tomb Raider (also published by Aspyr) right after the LRG pre-order ends. Numbered releases have a number placeholder on the spine of the game in the mock-ups. There's no number on their site and the spine is covered by the limited* slipcover, but I wouldn't interpret the lack of placeholder text about it being unnumbered as confirmation of anything - they've been bad at quality control for the past five years (on their site and their products).

* The standard slipcover seems to be limited but the same slipcover is conveniently in the $150 collector's edition that is not limited. So if you're willing to shell out an extra hundred or so for trinkets you too can get a slipcover despite it being "ULTRA RARE SOLD OUT"

The fact that they're just refusing to answer questions anymore to stoke the FOMO fires is a new but unsurprising low. I'm always disappointed when LRG is involved with something these days.

As a bonus, after the Tomba fiasco it looks like they've got a nice stock response about patches on cart/disc. I guess there are some issues with the Switch version 1.0 for Soul Reaver? I can't speak to them personally.
 
Well since I mentioned Soul Reaver didn't look like a numbered release.. But.. If You Click on Which Version or Platform you Want.. Then I Noticed it Magically Shows # 252 for Nintendo Switch and #29 for Xbox etc. So it is Numbered official LRG Release then ?

Yesterday I ordered Panzer Paladin Ps4.. Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town.. and Standard Switch Soul Reaver.. So I hope Soul Reaver doesn't have issues like Tomba..

Cause I Ordered Tomba standard & Collector's Edition knowing now it's crap from the Bugs from what others have said and I haven't even recieved it yet since it's tied up in manufacturing delays.
 
Someone pointed that out on Reddit too. Not sure what to make of it honestly. I'm still leaning toward "LRG is bad with quality control on their site" over this being a numbered release. But I also won't be heartbroken if I miss out, personally. Would rather buy it discounted digitally than through LRG.

I can’t wait for the explanation to be, “well the slipcover version is a numbered LRG release but there is a non-slipcover version that is not a numbered release”

It’s been 25 years since I played legacy of kain, it was one of the few PlayStation games I have distinct memories of playing, but LRG’s chicanery just has become such a turnoff that I’m not sure I even want to bother picking up a physical version of the re-release.

Like, seriously, I hope no one is falling for that garbage. Given how bad they crapped on the Vita crowd, and how much schlock they turn out, buying a complete LRG set is a one way track to being a massive bag holder.

The shelf rot is real.

No, its just an indicator if its distro or not. If its not numbered, likely hitting Amazon
 
Yeah, I’ve gotta believe at this point there’s an only a handful of LRG numbered release completionists left at this point (like barely into double digits). It’s more so whether this is gonna be showing up on Best Buy, Amazon, Target as a “retail” release or only available from LRG or VGP/PNP later down the road.
 
Well, maybe they'll reward the people who waited by releasing it in retail...as Legacy of Kain 1 for $29.99 and Legacy of Kain 2 $29.99 separate releases.

Then after they release Blood Omen, Blood Omen 2, and Defiance, they can do a Nosgoth Heritage Pack with all 5 games on cart.

So what this basically says is that this game is most likely getting a retail release. Why can't they just be transparent in the first place.
We are releasing an limited edition exclusive slip cover version and a collector's edition only available at Limited Run Games.

It's pretty fucking obvious that they are starting to do this now as they have done it with other games like Jedi Survivor, Dead Space and Sonic.

I'm glad I placed my order for the Xbox version before it sold out because I like the slip cover but be fucking transparent with your release. I'm sure it still would of sold out regardless. Incompetence!

Not just the inherent deception by obfuscating that fact but the fact they had the release numbers showing and the “not a numbered release” language was missing for 3 days.

Like, at best it’s incompetence, at worst it was a concerted effort to be as deceptive as possible. And neither one would surprise me.

Totally agree. Why not just buy the non-LRG versions for cheaper and get them now vs waiting forever? Unless I am missing something, I dont understand why they are even re-releasing those games. They arent even that expensive (atleast on PS4).

I have no idea, but VGP had the entire series physical copies PS4 for like $70 total a few days ago. My answer to your original question is no, you should not buy a particular video game at a premium price. You could buy a ps4 and the entire regular release series cheaper than what you end up paying for the LRG series. These seem something you should get them all, none at all, or just your favorites.

Now that's a fantastic idea. Dude could get a whole new awesome system with the whole series for cheaper than buying the Xbox versions from LRG. That sounds like the way to go, plus ps4 has thousands of other cheap games too!
 
What a shitshow on Legacy of Kain. I would have ordered on day 1 if LRG told us it was limited. Instead, I read the numbered release and no limit during the pre-order window. I come back now to find out it's sold out on the two platforms I would buy on. WTF!

Looks like 29 is still unknown along with 17 and 36. I'm guessing Xbox #17 will be HiFi Rush since it's close to grounded. One of the others may be Gex.

Good guess on HiFi Rush. LoK was #29 for two days until LRG changed it. I wonder if #29 will remain unused due to that error.
