Little Launch/General Tip-Maybe Repost

CAGiversary!
For those with out credit cards and not looking to get any, this might be the way to take advantage without destroying credit.

You can get a Target card and get 10% off what ever you get, then pay it off before you even leave the store. Plus between now and December 24 if you sign up you get 10% now and then 10% coupon in January if you spend over $250. Usually its $1000.

Thats what I plan on doing. I'm not a big fan of using credit cards but this is something worthwhile.

Plus if you dont use it for six months it cancels itself so you wont have to worry about it.

has been posted, but I'm not about to go search for it.

It's a decent idea and I strongly considered it...but it's just $25, so I decided to scrap it.

I hadn't heard about the second 10% off. Where can I find more information on that?

I was planning on getting the card for 10% off, then getting three launch games to get the $20 gift card.

Another 10% would be nice.

Keep in mind that getting lots of different credit cards actually hurts your credit, even if you cancel them (or so I've always read and been told). Better to do these kinds of deals at places like Best Buy where you can save a few hundred off a TV or something. Still, as long as you don't abuse such programs, you probably won't do too much damage.

I only have one CC to my name from my bank, and it's good to have at least 2-3 from what I understand.

Does Best Buy offer a 10% off if you open a card with them? Or is it just a rewards card thing.

Strell, my sister is in charge of guest service at a local target and she is the one who told me about the additional 10%, so im sure if u ask someone at guests services near you they can explain it better than I

I kind of agree, but I kind of don't. Target offers 2 kinds of cards, one for their store, and a Visa one that works everywhere. Also, it hurts your credit more to get the card for the discount then cancel it right away. I am just going to have it for emergencies since I don't have a credit card at the moment.

But I strongly discourage people canceling them right away.

If temptation is too much for you, get it use the 10% then cut up the card. It will automatically cancel itself without hurting your credit after 6 months.

Plus I also want it so I can take advantage of all the online deals CAG makes light of.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. Credit cards have expiration dates on them which is more like a couple of years rather than 6 months. Just because the card isn't used for 6 months doesn't mean it is automatically cancelled. Always cancel credit cards you aren't going to use any more. Rather than having an open account out there for someone to take advantage of...You would probably be very surprised if you looked at your credit report. Those cards you never cancelled will still be there.

Strell, I believe the "second 10% off" you are referring to is the Target rewards progam. After you spend a certain amount ($1000) on your credit card, they send you a coupon for a full day of 10% off shopping. It wouldn't really stack because the initial 10% off has to be used on the first purchase of your card. As for Best Buy, they don't have anything like this for their credit cards, but they have a reward system where you get coupons in $5 increments for spending a certain amount ($250 I think).

disagree Brainwave, but I'm right, my sister works in the guest service center and she explained to to me very clearly, this card will cancel itself after six months without use.
