LittleBigPlanet Vita, online pass?

So I bought a Vita last summer and have been going back recently and looking at more games, LBP had a demo so I tried it.

It's fun on the Vita. So next step.. buy it. 

I see the Cart on Amazon for $20, reviews say the retail copy comes with an expired Online pass code.. Great.

So I figure I'l just grab the Digital copy, right?

$17.99 on PS store, even better. 

But below it they list the Online pass for $9.99, I would assume it's for the people who buy the game used, or with the expired pass..

My big question is If I buy the digital copy off the PS store.. Do I have to buy the online pass also? You would think the online pass would be included in the digital copy..

You don't have to buy the online pass separately.

Source: Bought it digitally a month ago when it was on sale; played online without buying a separate pass.

The pass is probably just for those with the expired code, or bought used.

I bought a new copy from my local Gamestop and the online pass wasn't expired. Not sure if they extended them, or if there are multiple printings with different expiration dates for the online pass.
