Now much out of the ordinary ever happens in my neck of the woods so this was a major event around here.
La Crosse, WI
Last week, a couple of boys were playing in the backyard of what they thought was an abandoned house. The homeowner emerged from the house and confronted the kids in his yard. He proceeded to hit one of the boys over the head and steal his bike.
The boy ran home and told his parents who immediately went back to the man's house to confront him. After a short argument, the homeowner (52) pulled out a handgun and shot at the father, mother, and son. The father was shot in the shoulder twice and a bullet grazed his cheek. The mother was grazed by a bullet in the leg and the boy was not shot. When the police were called, the man took refuge inside his house and refused to come out.
During the standoff, the man revealed that the body of his dead mother was being kept in a freezer in his basement. After a 17 hour standoff, the man surrendered.
Authorities searched the house and found a large block of ice in the freezer which appeared to contain a human body. Ice was chipped away to reveal that it was indeed human and it was removed from the house to completely remove from ice and to perform an autopsy and identify.
The man later revealed that she had died over 4 years ago and he kept her in the freezer because he couldn't survive without her social security checks.
Police also recovered over 15 loaded guns (including a sawed off shotgun) and 20 homemade bombs, many containing nails and industrial staples.
They also found a blood spatter on a wall that the man claimed was from a cat biting his mother after she died.
Most recently, they have determined that the mother died of natural causes.
