Long post...help a parent/gamer out.

CAGiversary!
This is going to come across as a very strange thread but hopefully gets some helpful responses. Definitely long-winded.

I have a son, he's almost 3. 3 meaning I have not been a parent very long at all. At first I made sure his exposure to video games and electronic media were 0 but slowly I've realized that if he plays the right type of games and watches the right type of entertainment it ends up having quite a positive effect on his development.

Example : He was having trouble writing letters with a pencil or crayon so we purchased a Leapfrog Mr.Pencil that is compatible with an iPad app. My almost three year old now writes words on paper with a pencil. Technology can help and I'm proud to say I was completely wrong with the mentality I started raising him with.

MOVING ALONG.

Recently he has become quite good at playing games ( either on a Wii U at Target demo booths or using an Xbox 360 controller on my laptop ). He has been enjoying the Lego Games and 1st Party Nintendo games through emulators. Unfortunately the laptop screen is way too small and I don't like the idea of him squinting and shoddy emulation making games crash all the time.

--------

I am looking to buy a new system ( previously owned a ps2,xbox,gamecube,ps3 and xbox 360 ) but slowly got rid of all of them before he was born to be a more focused individual. It did most definitely help but I feel like its time to get back into it.

I am open to any advice, please keep in mind that I would also like to purchase a television on BF. Ideally the tv would cost  100 or less. So now for the question of which console is the best choice...

Wii U ( games are great, he loves it when he plays demos ),

PS4 ( mediocre for him I am guessing but wonderful for me ) ,

Xbox One ( I love Halo...but in terms of kid specific titles there doesn't look to be much ),

Wii BC ( I would purchase a BC one on eBay , massive game library, cheap price but I don' know if I should just purchase a Wii U instead and be somewhat future proof and enjoy newer games as well as things like Bayonetta 2 )

Gamecube ( not sure why I'm listing this but hey, its even cheaper than the Wii and so cute looking for a kid )

----

Also if you'd like to chime in on televisions 100 or under I would greatly appreciate it. At this point anything more than a 15'' laptop monitor with poor viewing angles would be lovely.

Thank you for reading and I hope I didn't ruin anyone's day.

Maybe get him a game cube since there are tons of platformer type games on it & family orientated stuff. Plus the games are cheap. Than when the wiiU drops in price in the future [feel like it'll be soon] than get him a wiiU and I believe wiiU is backwards compatible with wii games too.
OR just wait for the wiiU to drop in price soon and only get that.

Oh and if you get a ps4 or xb1 youll probably be buying for yourself some M rated games I'm sure, so he'll probably end up playing them too eventually when your not around or end up watching you play when your too focused on a game.

Get him a Backwards compatible Wii and a Gamecube controller. Tons of games that you and your kid can enjoy together. If you want recommendations, just ask.

Edit: I also recommend a Wii U, but I think its good to start on the original wii. And most of the Wii games and part of the gamecube library is cheap.

I really appreciate these responses. It seems like the only reason to get a Wii U would be for myself correct? And I suppose in case he wanted to play current franchise games for TV he watches or toys etc?

Anyone think the Wii U will go sub 200 on Black Friday? So far the best deal is the Nintendo.com refurb deal and that's 205...so not really the greatest.

EDIT:

Also is there any reason to go for a Gamecube over a Wii besides the glorious cubeyness?

I don't know if the Wii U will drop lower than $205 in black Friday, but I would suggest you wait and see. The only reason that the gamecube could be better is that it supports the gameboy player.

The Gameboy player is pretty awesome. Thank you again for all the input. Leaning towards a Wii right now especially because of price and motion controlled games. The Wii U is something I REALLY want but again the 200 price point without any awesome games is kind of not awesome.

I'm also recommending the Wii for children. There are a lot of games that are good for kids to play to help with Hand/eye coordination. Plus you can pick a Wii up for super cheap on craigslist or off of cowboom.

For some reason I really want to buy a Gamecube, probably just nostalgia. But likely going with a Wii if I can get a good deal. Thanks again.

I would definatly go Wii U over a Wii since there are actually games being made for Wii U still and the fact that the Wii U can play all Wii games as well, it would be kind of dumb to go Wii over Wii U unless u are really that hard off to save a hundred bucks or so
