Looking for a Cheap/Decent Flat Panel Monitor

zzl365

CAGiversary!
I'm looking for a flat panel monitor that will give me the most bang for the buck, the size of the screen isn't really a concern for me. I would prefer a larger screen, but I'd rather have a good quality 15" than a so-so 17". I'm looking for something that will be suitable for gaming, I've read that LCDs have issues with games but I have no first hand experience to know what I should be looking for, also I'm trying to spend around $300. Thanks in advance for any input.

If it is for gaming you will have to spend big $$ to get the new tech and avoid the blur.

Personally I would get a regular monitor.

Yeah, I would love to go with a CRT, but space isn't going to allow for it, I'm not looking for the ultimate in blur prevention, just something thats passable (i.e. doesn't make me want to not play games at all). Whether thats possible or not given my price range I don't know.

I, too, am looking for an LCD monitor, in the price range of 300-400. Here's a good one from NEC... the 25 ms refresh rate might not be perfect for gaming, but it won't suck:

I'm thinking however that it might be worth it to sacrifice a little of the extras on the computer for this beauty:

16 ms is awesome, a max contrast rate of 500:1, and of course 17". All of the reviews on this site have said that there is no hint of ghosting whatsoever. Not to mention that neck is sexy.

One more thing, keep an eye on newegg.com as they have specials on lcd monitors quite often.

dont go cheap on em if u wanna do gaming. some of them just can't keep up with the fast images so u c a ghosting effect on the screen.

I am looking for a good deal on a flat panel screen as well. I don't really play games on my PC, so I don't really need a monitor that will empty my wallet.

The lower the respose time the better. Below 25 is acceptable for gaming, below 20 is ideal. therefore 16 would be pretty damn nice and about as low as you can go. Actually I think 12 is the lowerst I've seen, but you pay by the arm/leg for that.

Whoa.... That Benq monitor was tight. A 16ms response for under 400, that's awesome. I wish they'd have left off the speakers though.... Could have knocked a few more dollars off the price tag.

yeah... speakers attached to monitors are usually junk. I have Sony LCD monitor with built in speakers, but they are no good for gaming or anything serious.

I play UT2004 with my SDM-X82 with no problem. I think mine has about 25ms response time. I don't see any ghosting in Call of Duty either.

I just spent $450 on a Sony LCD about a month and a half ago with a 25ms refresh rate, and I'm a heavy gamer. The first few days it was pretty disgusting but now, honestly, I don't notice a thing. Nothing beats watching DVDs on here, though. (And I still want a dual monitor :p )

Also rememeber that since companies measure crts and lcds differently, a 15" lcd has the same amound of viewable area as a 17" crt, 17" is the same as a 19", etc.
