EBgames had a decent trade in deal, but I'm sure that's over now. You traded in 4 non-sports games and could get the game and drive for $49.99.

for the ps2 sorry if I wasnt clear about that. Really could care less about the game I just want the hardrive for Resident Evil Outbreak and Fight Night 04. Thanks for responding though.

They said the load times were killer up to 20 seconds long. I can't imagine waiting that long everytime I enter a new room. Said the HD cuts the load times to nothing. And I figure down the road some other game will require the hd so I'll be set.

Yup. Oops guess you'd need the hd to play FF XI well I'll have a nice coaster then. Hopefully this will tide me over untill WoW this summer..at least I'm hoping its realeased this summer.

Is FFXI installed on the HDD or do you get the actual disc? I have heard conflicting reports about this.

And also, is there a way to get a few months free or cheap?

I have a Target Rain check for a PS2 game I wonder if it will work for FF XI? It is only for 23% off but that would still be a great deal.

It will probably come installed on the HDD but you;ll probably also get a utility disk "just in case". First 30days of FFonline is free... thats about all.

Yes it comes already pre-installed on the HDD and the disk will be included also. I was also wondering the same thing a while back and some CAGs were helpful about it. Also I've seen it online on their web page.

If they'd just lower the monthly cost to $5-10, I may actually play FFXI beyond my free month. I don't have enough time in the week to devote $13 worth towards this game.

SOCOM, however, is why I'm getting this HDD

I was at Target today, and saw that the official strategy guide they were going to offer with it is not going to arrive. So, instead they are knocking 15 dollars off the price, to $85. This was in St. Louis, MO, at the Target on Manchester.

Great I'll stop by my Target hopefully I'll get it for 85.00. Could care less about the strat guide or the game itself just want the HDD.

I hate to be the pessimist here, but trying to get a a good deal on this game is an oxymoron.

Average price of Final Fantasy XI $99.95 (PS2) or $49.95 (PC)
First year of play (12 Months - 1 Month Free) X 12.95/Month = $142.45

Total Price of Game After One Year: $242.40 (PS2) or $192.40 (PC) Depending on your platform of choice.

Oh, let us not forget Taxes if applicable, Shipping if applicable, Expansion Packs, Additional Characters, and the Opportunity Cost (Read: Time Wasted Not At Work/School).

for your second year, assuming they do not increase subscription rate, just take ($12.95 + ($1.00 X Number of additional characters)) X 12 Months.

Sorry, could not resist. As you guessed, I can't fathom purchasing this for anything else other then it being Final Fantasy. Think I'll wait, pick one off of eBay complete and throw it in my Final Fantasy Collection. But it has a Hard Drive you say? We installed our own.

Square Enix/Sony aren't just making money, they are minting it.

Flamesuit on. Check.
Fire Extinguisher on Hand. Check.

I'm ready, let em rip.

Chris.

*Chuckles* I'm not even going to play the game I just wanted the hardrive. But I figured I'd just wait till they start selling them used on ebay figure somone will eventually.

are there plans to release the harddrive on its own? gamestop is being a little shady saying that the hd costs 99.99 and you get ffxi for free. is the hd alone worth 99.99? i thought the cost of ffxi was at least partially represented on that 99.99 price tag. anyone got any info on this?

I agree with you completely. I am done with pay-to-play games. If there was an offline component to ffxi, ala pso online, I would get it. I am not shelling out $100 PLUS $13/month for any game.

It's well within your right not to play it, I'm sure they dont expect everyoe who buys the HDD to play it past the free month either. MMORPGs are a niche market, the people who play them see it as a monthly service akin to cable tv, they;re paying for content not the game, the game was paid for whenthey plunked down their change in the store.

Not to suggest this is how you should see it if you dont want to, just an explaination of why it's acceptable to those who do.

In reality the game isnt really free, you can get a 40 gig PCHD for 60 bucks as it is. When you buy the HDD you;re buying the game and what ever extra software is bundeled with it free is just being said to give the impression its a deal. I doubt it'll be sold separately for some while, they'd need to get atleast half a dozen hit games out that use the HDD to justify a standalong purchase withtout FFonline.
