I have a $1200 budget and I'm looking to purchase a 1080p lcd hdtv in the next 2-3 weeks and was curious to see if anybody had any recommendations or other helpful sites.

Thanks in advance

yeah, samsung has the best lcd's. i just bought the LN-T4069FX and it's great. makes regular dvd's look HD with it's 120Hz. that's a great price for the tv, IMO, perfect size too...

Is there a reason that this is so much cheaper than most 1080p lcd tvs that are of a well known brand? I'd love to pick up a nice TV like this for gaming.

well, for one, the response time is below the curve, at 8ms....

I'm probably going to go with the AQUOS 32" 1080p from Sharp.
It's $1259 at BB.
link

I know 1080p is a little overkill at that size. but I figured that if I'm buying a HDTV, i might shell out an extra couple bills for the high resolution, instead of a few extra inches. Since when playing games I personally work better on smaller screens.
plus this one has a Gameing mode.
:p

Keep in mind you'll want to be sitting within 5-6' of the TV if you buy a 1080p 32"

If you're sitting 7'+ back it starts getting real hard to notice the difference.

I personally wouldn't buy a $1300 32" TV--that is a ripoff. I paid $475 a/ tax for a 720p 32". Going to move it to the bedroom and buy a 50" plasma some day :)

Eek, yeah that's a little expensive for a 32". AQUOS is pretty over priced IMO.

I scored a 40" 1080p Toshiba REGZA for 1,200-ish plus tax from CC a while ago. I would keep looking..

Yeah that is too much for a 32". Tigerdirect had the 42 or 46" sharp 1080p for like 1300$. Don't know if they still have it for that price, but you may want to check there.

I wouldn't order a $1300 anything from Tiger Direct.

Pay the extra $200-500 and buy it in store with a 4 year warranty.

CompUSA might be a good place to look for TVs right now...especially after Xmas when they bump up the discounts.

dude, $1200 for a 32"??!!!! sharp aint even the best picture out there. Have a Fry's close by? i was there a week and a half ago and they had samsung's 720p(which is all you need on a 32") LCD HDTV for only $599! not even on sale. it's the best looking lcd you can get. and, yeah for $800 @ costco you can get a 37" Toshiba Regza w/720p that's same picture quality as those overpriced sharp's. IMO get a toshiba for your price range and size you want. for best PC, go with samsung if you're going LCD...

All the advice you're getting here is completely correct. For the amount of money that you're willing to shell out, you can get a much better tv or bigger. If space is a problem then a 720p will do just fine and you can save yourself a lot of money so that you can use it on other things. I myself am going to get Samsung's LN-T4671F which just dropped $100 at Amazon.com. I think that is a great deal and I've been waiting for a while to get to this price.

I recently purchased my TV, a Samsung LNT-4665F, 46" 1080P LCD from Amazon for 1599, including shipping. They should still have this deal available, even though it's a little over your budget.

What is your opinion on the TV that you bought? I will pull the trigger on the 71 but I was looking at your model. Even for a 52".

It's the best looking 46" I've ever seen. It's got nearly every input you could want (including VGA). I have zero complaints on it. It looks good sitting above my mantle.

I'm currently using it as my second display whenever I don't want to go as big as my projector.

find $300 extra dollars or so (they might offer it cheaper now, i got it for $1500 flat)

get a panny 700u 1080p plasma at 42" from invision displays (great people)

carefully check the box before signing, open up, enjoy, and break the tv in without a lot of static images and low picture/brightness settings for the first 200 hours, and you'll be good to go with all the static images (sports and gaming especially) from there on out

you'll get a realistic picture, a big tv, 1080p, and a great price

also it doesn't have even as close to as much glare as that 61F samsung, and it's the best HDTV in motion out there (it holds 880+ lines of resolution which is the highest among all tvs....the lowest group were LCD's to which the sony xbr4 and sammy 120hz tv's kept only around 600 lines)

but please, as a tv afficiando, do not listen to von, he has NO clue what he's talking about when it comes to tv's, im assuming he's young and immature, and also one of those people who thinks what in store sales associates tell him is correct, and that whatever he owns is the best

i love my tv (panny 700u) but even I know its not the best, as that is currently the 60" Pioneer Kuro Elite (which also costs an arm and a leg)

so.... I've read a few bad user reviews on the Sharp 32'', and I dont think I'm going to get it anymore.

I think you guys have me sawaying towards a Samsung. the only thing is, I heard some bad stuff about the 120hz making the picture a little blurry at times.
and most of their TVs that are about $1,500 have a response time of 8ms. wont that affect gameplay when on the Xbox360?

do they have any TVs with a game mode setting?

Edit: By the way, my first choice was going to be a Sharp based on what I saw at a CC showroom but then I started researching and my opinion changed.

I believe that the Sammys do have game modes, which if I recall correctly from reading over at AVS Forums, improves the quality alot. You can/should continue researching reviews and their forums for user opinions. I've done a lot of researching and for the budget, the samsung models are a great choice. If I could afford a lot more, I would have gone with the Pioneer elite that Suppaman had mentioned, but unfortunately not many people can afford that price tag.

now you're talking! I just bought the Samsung LNT-4069FX earlier this month. why'd i buy it? because it hands down beat the picture quality of ANY other LCD tv in CC, BB & Fry's. I thought Sony's Bravia series was the shiznite when i saw it next to a toshiba in costco. then, i saw the samsung next to the sony in CC and it was all over. love at first sight you could say, LOL. The 120Hz is what does it for me.

This tv makes some regular dvd's look like HD-DVD's. Lord of the Rings, 007, superbad, etc. All look like a completely different movie. I've never gotten any motion blur or "ghosting" even when watching hockey or football. The Auto Motion Plus is adjustable in low, med, high and can be completely turned off as well. It adds a field of depth undeliverable on any other tv, even the bravias. samsung does AMP the best right now. this tv runs at 6ms and does have game mode, which is noticeable and smooths the movement even more. Gears of War is unbelievable on this tv! it's like watching a movie.

if you're gonna go with this tv, they have it for $1499 (just dropped again this week) w/free shipping & no tax right now on Vanns.com, where i bought mine from. highly recommend them. this screen is matte which is perfect for rooms that you'll be watching tv in a bright room during the day. it doesn't even reflect the lamp behind my couch at night. the piano black cabinet is very sexy too. this tv's worth the dough, 40" is perfect size/price ratio IMO and you won't get outdated for a long time with this tv...:D

My Samsung DLP (~3 years old now) has a response time of 16ms. I've beaten Guitar Hero 1 and 2 both on expert without being affected by lag, and without using the lag calibration feature of GH2.

8ms is fine.

STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION

it may be your opinion but it's not fact, let alone the majority opinion of people who actually know what good picture quality is

no tv makes regular dvd's look like blu-ray/hd-dvds

game modes are the most overrated pointless things on tv, generally they just up the shit on contrast/etc to make a horribly unrealistic picture that's more eye attention grabbing

Also a lot of the new sammy's are having issues (some hardware some software) *cough 71 series* (well all of them actually).

And whatever you do, don't go completely by in store pictures. First LCD's will look better in the bad lighting, secondly they (and even plasma's) have settings jacked to unrealistic proportions that make for a competely unnatural looking picture but do so because bright extreme colors attract attention of the human eye.

If you can see some decent tv's in a more natural setting (ie: smaller chains or non-chains, not bestbuy, circuit city, etc) then I'd advise that. I'd also advise playing with the picture settings a bit on the tv's. Lastly I'd see if you could hook up a game system or run your own dvd to the tv(s).

check opinions on avsforum.com and do a little research there

As my second LCD TV I have the 42 inch westinghouse 1080p TV and it is a solid unit. It was a budget buy for the playroom and I have been really pleased with it.

It's not as good as my Sammy in the constrast department and the blacks are on the weak side. It has got good brightness levels and is clearly playable on even the darkest game levels.

The AVS junkies wont talk it up but it works really well with the 360 in 1080p and with my HTPC. It also looks better than any of the 1080p Bravia S TVs that are $600 more.

The newer model has 4 HDMI inputs and has an all black bezel. It was a steal and under $900 at BB with a 12% coupon.

once again, we'll have to agree to disagree. you're stating my opinions mean nothing, yet you tell me to go to avsforums to read other opinions, that i'm guessing are more correct in your opinion? haha. just call the kettle black already mr. pot. oh yeah, and everyone seems to love their 69er, enough?

trust me, the 120Hz AMP makes some of my dvd's look HD. you're telling me i'm mistaken of what i'm seeing? it adds depth and clarity to the pc. my friend, a chic, came over last night to watch superbad and she asked why it looked "weird". so it's noticeable even to a girl that knows nothing about HD watching a SD DVD through S video on a 360.

game mode doesn't seem to change the color or contrast, it seems to smooth the movement of the characters and environment. and i like the "unrealistic" look. isn't that the point?

my 69'er is problem free and like i've said before, all top brand flat panels run in the 3% failure rate. that's a statistic, not opinion.

yes, tv's come out of the box calibrated for bright super-stores. any educated HDTV consumer should know that and properly calibrate their HDTV.

YOU NEED A REALITY CHECK: name one place where you can go that'll carry high quality tv's that doesn't have lighting that isn't realistic to a home. i dare you. smaller chain? ha? like who? tweeter? you don't think they'll have bright lights as well? unless you know a guy in brooklyn that sells his "hot" tv's out of his mother's basement with no lighting and just happens to have every major brand you want to compare in "realistic" lighting, it ain't gonna happen. your advice is true and good, but very unrealistic. wow.

oh yeah, and i'd like to see you going to EVERY tv in CC and adjusting the picture settings. how long would that take. like they'd even let you do that anyways. even if you could, wouldn't the tv not look as good since you're adjusting it for home lighting in a commercial lighting setting? i know, it's a catch-22, but you made it up. haha. stupa-man :D

if you knew anything you'd know the 360 is possibly one of the worst available dvd players out there and that s-video is one of the worst hookups available on a hdtv, third to only composite and then antenna/rf

amazon 42" sharp 42d64u @1388ish

at these prices I would pick the 65 series sammy. Many of the previous issues have been eliminated in the sharp from the previous model. 42d62u...I would not buy that model.

Do your research at avs as previously mentioned. Take what you read there and go look. Bottom line is you have to like what you see. Realize that alot of things you hear the avs people discuss you won't even realize. Remember they are audio/video freaks. In a good way, but a little obsessive. And yes ignore Von. Von sounds as though he is just defending his own purchase.

dumbass, where's your rebuttals? i like how you cant answer any of my responses earlier. your "advice" doesn't make sense. i'm definitely not saying my tv looks the best on my 360, i'm saying it beats the looks of all other LCD's on the sales floor when full 1080p Blu-Ray is playing. compontent cables in the mail from monoprice, hdmi-less 360. and, no i'm not justifying my purchase, i'm just sold on LCD in general. i like my matte screen and can watch it from my pc on teh side and the viewing angle is great. to each his own. if you have a "cinema" room, plasma would be good. for me? my bright room works perfect with my matte lcd. i liked what i saw, that's why i bought my tv. isn't that what you did? suppaman, how about trying to defend yourself? you sure don't seem to have answers to your unreasonable suggestions. quitter...
