Looking for a laptop in the $900-$1,200 price range

Anyone know of a good buy for a laptop in that general price range? I know little about laptops as I've never had one, so brand recommendations and advice on things I should look and look out for would be just as helpful.

Since you're a student, you could get an iBook starting at $950. However, I reccomend you take the plunge and get a PowerBook for $1400. I know this is a bit biased, but I only know about Macs, but I really do feel they are better...
