Shooping for a non violent ps2 game for an 8 year old, might buy 2.

His favourite games are all pg 13 if not mature, I want to calm him a bit, bit of a freak screaming and claiming terminator as the best movie.

too much tv for kids these days

My kids love Pac Man World 2.

Pushing the envelope a little further is Ratchet and Clank and/or Jak and Daxter and/or Maximo...a little Cartoon violence never hurt anyone:D

I was gonna say, look no farther than your sig/avater! Katamari is a great game that teaches a great lesson; The King of the universe is a huge dude with a small child who like to roll stuff onto his sticky balls.
I found you a good one that comes out soon. Ape Escape 3 is a great game for the little ones. A little bit of violence but not like your talking about. You catch monkeys for Yaweh's sake. As bad as it gets is running them over with a little toy R/C car so you can put em in your net.

I know ape escape, played it alot when it first came out, was thinking I could grab some of the earlier versions here, I'll probably do ape escape and katamari

I'd suggest...

Ratchet and Clank (any will do, although it's best to start with the original)
Jak and Daxter: Precursor Legacy (Jak II and III may be borderline, really)
Katamari Damacy (couldn't go wrong with this!)
We Love Katamari (if Katamari works out well)
Klonoa 2 (if you can find it, a masterful platformer from Namco)
Beyond Good and Evil (may be a bit too much content-wise, but should be a great choice)

How bout an SSX game? You can get SSX Tricky or SSX 3 for 20 bucks or less, and they're pretty nonviolent and fun (you do get to shove people down on their boards, but that's about it)

Ratchet and Jak games are probably terrible for an 8 year old with a temper problem. I can see it now, "YA WELL I'LL TURN YOU INTO A CHICKEN AND PUSH YOU OFF THE EDGE!" Beyond Good and Evil is a little dark too.
