Looking for "must have" list

I've decided to finally jump on the DS bandwagon, and am wondering which titles I should get to fill out a good collection. Favorite genres of mine include western-style RPGs (JRPG stories usually make my head hurt) and strategy games, but other types are more than welcome as suggestions.

So the question is: what games should I look to get to fill out a "greatest hits of the DS" or "must play games" style collection?
