Looking for Sony brand component cable for PS2

saw it at the kbtoys (canoga park, ca ) closing sale for around 14.99 minus a 40% reduction, making it approximately $9....ymmv though....

bestbuy has the Madcatz component cables for ~$9, i dont think it has too much of a diffrence to the naked eye in terms of pic quality

I am wondering which component cables to but for my PS2 - any help would be greatly appreciated. here's what I'm deciding between:

1. Monster Cables - $59.99
2. Sony - $24.99
3. Mad Catz - $9.99

Wil I notice a big difference between them? Thanks!

I doubt that you will see any difference in any of them. Monster cable is way way over priced. The sony is 25 cause it says sony.

i use the mad catz component cables and my friend uses the sony ones. there isn't really a difference i can c between them, imo u might aswell go for the cheaper mad catz ones.

If you have a very high end High Def TV, then yeah, go for the $50 monster cables as you will notice a difference. If you have a normal TV, you will be hard pressed to notice any difference between the mad catz and the official sony ones. I have the official sony ones for my PS2 and mad catz for all my other systems, and I cannot tell any difference in picture quality. Just get the mad catz ones and buy a cheap ass game with the money you save.

I would stay away from the mad cats ones. For xbox people have been complaining about them when using 480p. Id bet these have the same problems. I use the monsters on my ps2 and on the xbox i use the xbox hd pack with monster cables

The madcztz are fine, but you will need a separate optical cable if you have a sound system. I think thats the same for all PS2 component cables though.

The ps2 has optical out the back of the system why would any of them include it.

I got the Sony from Jandr.com a long while ago. The PS2 has really no progressive scan/HiDef Games to speak of (a few I think?) so you really won't see a huge difference if any over s-video cable, but it will look better then a RCA Video Cable.

The sony cable comes with L/R audio. If you want optical out you will need seperate cable in addition to the Sony PS2 Cable. You'll just have to tell your receiver to use digital audio instead of the analog.

on a side note, I am pretty sure that no PS2 games have surround sound in game during play. They say they do but that is only during cutscenes. So unless you use your PS2 as a DVD player digital audio cable is pointless.

I haven't done any research on the Sony or Mad Catz cables, but if you are interested in the Monster cables, go to Gamestop...I got all my Monster Cables for my Xbox at Gamestop and they are significantly cheaper there than anywhere else. The Monster Component cables for Xbox are $60 everywhere else and only $40 at GS...The same applies for the PS2 cables except they may be a little cheaper than the Xbox ones. BTW, there is a difference in quality depending on what the connectors are made of...You want to go with cables that have Gold-plated connectors, not copper or the standard metal that is on the PS2's stock A/V cables.

There are at least 40 PS2 games with Progressive Scan, with many more on the way. However, there are no HD PS2 games, and because of hardware limitations there will probably never be.

on a side note, I am pretty sure that no PS2 games have surround sound in game during play. They say they do but that is only during cutscenes. So unless you use your PS2 as a DVD player digital audio cable is pointless.

There are a few games that support In-game DTS(4.0, 5.1) sound on the PS2...Not Dolby Digital though. The only DD support is during cutscenes in the PS2 games. To put DTS in PS2 games is a challenge and it also costs a bit more for developers to do (supposedly).

wow up to 40 now!

When I got mine there was I think 1 and it was not released yet. About Bloody time!

But are any of them any good?

Yes, I meant Dolby Digital or DTS.
