Looking to buy my first HDTV

Well I would recommend http://www.avsforum.com/

Their is a ton of good info on both LCD and Plasma TV's.

This week there should be some great deals due to the Super Bowl. Another tip is to check Best Buy next week after the Super Bowl for open box items(that's how I got mine last year).

Happy hunting!

whats your price range?

i suggest going with a 42" 720P plasma for $699 @ sears..

if the TV is under 50" and you are beyond 6 feet, u dont notice the difference between 720P vs 1080P

also Dynamic contrast ration is bullsh*t, its just like the measurement of white on an all black screen vs the measurement of black on an all white screen or something...

and ansi contrast ratio is important aka native contrast, but most companies measure their contrasts differently so u can throw that out the window when comparing different contrasts from different brands, BUT if you are comparing between say u look at sony's line then the native contrasts will be better or worsst between SONY's line, ect.

there are usually 32" sharp 720P's for like $399 randomly on sale.

look at B&M stores through the next month. Superbowl and tax returns equals electronic stores posting tv deals to lure you in.

AVS Forum is an awesome site but can be a little overwhelming at times. Read the stickys for info on there.

and then look around slickdeals.net for a online deal as well.
Thanks for the help was looking around the 500 dollar range
For that range you could get a 32in Sony Bravia on sale somewhere B&M, or a 37 or 42 non sony brand...Good hunting...I personally got me a TOSHIBA 26 in at Compusa(they are still here in PR) for 415$, I know that for that price I could have bought me a Sylvania 32 in at Kmart, or another brand....But since I did not wanted to buy a new table for the tv, and I would be moving soon, just bought that one.And it is a nice looking tv.

I would check out amazon.com they even ship it with a total price less than it is at walmart, usually. You jusst have to be on the lookout. Dont buy locally if you are looking to save money, unless you are using craigslist. heh
